...and who put them there?
I have had them here for the first time today. Does anybody else get them from this site?

I am on FF and it usually catches them and notifies me but it had never happened at this site before. I thought that they were triggered by visiting particular sites.
Anyway I have had no more since this morning.

My research indicates that these programs are activated by the site that is being displayed. This has been my experience as well. Is that not the case?

Re: Some of them are pretty smart now
Well I could certainly use a new computer. I am on a 10 yr old laptop with half the letters worn off the keyboard. I cleaned out the cooling fan the other month and got about an ounce of nicotine soaked dust out of there. I was a little surprised that it hadn't burst into flames yet. I keep a beer close by at all times in case I have to extinguish any unwanted combustion.
Generally I prefer old familiar things over shiny new things. It seems to me that they both have problems. In the past I had always resisted updating anything because mostly all that happened was they moved the fucking buttons around after I got used to the old ones. I do keep my browser and security updated.
Anyway thanks for the advice, I will root it out.

Re: Some of them are pretty smart now
Chances are, you could find a more advanced machine (can do everything you're current laptop does, but faster and lighter) for about $100 to $200 from Walmart.
That is remarkable. If I recall correctly I paid about $2800 for this one back in 2004. It has a 40 GB drive.
Hopefully your understanding of the log files and the procedure he's trying to do is better than mine?
Yet another case of unwarranted optimism Its all gobbledygook. You would think we could teach these machines to speak english by now.

Re: Some of them are pretty smart now
I pretty sure after 5 minutes of Win8 he's going to be disheartened, especially given that not only did they move the buttons, but they made them invisible and in a completely non-intuitive location.
I am not entirely calcified yet. I love to learn new things but I do not love learning the same thing over and over again. I do enough of that already. Its like changing the position of the letters on the keyboard every 2 yrs. WTF? Change things if it makes them better but otherwise I say leave them alone.

I suggest running malwarebytes occasionally.
69 items detected.
Why doesn't my McAfee program catch all these things? I pay money for that.

Well no not yet, my machine is running smoothly. But again, what do these new OS s do that the old ones don't? It seems like it is mostly furniture arranging to me. Keeps the economy going I guess. Am I not being a good little consumer?
I have a HP Pavilion desk top with Vista gathering dust here. Maybe I will fire that up and see if it works. It is almost pre-aged enough for me to feel comfortable with it. I suppose that I should upgrade my stuff before everything crashes and I lose it all. I have everything backed up on external drives so I figured I could just hang on until the bitter end.

I was really impressed with the new search function of Windows 7. Its not just for files anymore, you can search for functions that the OS performs.
That sounds useful.
I shouldn't be so negative. I am sure that there are improvements beyond the phenomenal growth of memory capacity and speed. I was looking at an external HD with 1.5 TB for about $80. I bought one 2 years ago with 250 GB for about that price. This incredible pace of development leads me to want to wait another 6 months when I can get more for less. I guess eventually I will have to take the step.
Electronics are a little different than all the other hardware that I own. I don't hesitate to tear apart my fridge or furnace or the engine in my car fix them up and put them back together with good success. The last time I took a computer apart I ended up with a really cool wind chime.
What I really want is something that is extremely robust without a lot of the bells and whistles. A truck rather than a sports car. I don't mind being a yr or 7 behind the leading edge.
I am used to knowing how the things around me work but I have failed to keep up with computers. I need to find a computer guru who I can trust to sell me good used stuff.
