Hi, I am a student and was wondering to if anyone knows or has heard of the experiment where a quantum is passed through a dilution refrigeration towards a silicon panel and the quantum is seen to exist in 2 states at once. One being the quantum is absorbed into a panel in the fridge and the second being the quantum passes through the fridge. These events are reported to have happened simultaneously resulting in the panel being in both states as well. Really need to know what it is called so I can research it further as I myself just over heard of the experiment in passing, any information would be a great help.

Quantum?
When you ask about quantums are you referring to photons? What's a quantum?

A "quantum", to me, means the smallest unit that something can exists as. Like, like the thinnest you can slice it, but it still being it.
For example, the quantum of U.S. currency is the cent. You can't pay me 1/2 cents because they don't make anything smaller than a penny.
So when you say "a quantum" then I'm left wondering 'a quantum of what?'

Hello,
quantum I believe refers to the idea that reality exist in discreet packets of information. A individual amount, quantum was dubbed back the early days of quantum mechanics from (quanti or quanto) Latin word for a amount. It can also denote that which refers to the quantum world or quantum reality, the world of the very small where QM describes partical behavior.
In regards to quantums I believe you mean quantum particle?

Re: Quantum?
I am referring to a quantum of energy. I am not sure as to the specifics of the experiment, hence why I proposed the question in the OP. If I had to guess I would say the one definition best suited to the experiment is "A quantum of energy is a little packet of energy. The quantum theory developed at the beginning of the last century tells us that energy changes in atoms happens when these little packets of energy are taken in or given out."

Re: Quantum?
Reading into the reaction between silicon and photons, as far as absorption goes, I believe you are right that the experiment might of been done with a photon.

Re: Quantum?
When I type the words "photon", "dilution", and "refrigerator" into google, all kinds of interesting stuff pops out. I'd be very surprise if you did not see what you were looking for if you do that yourself.

Re: Quantum?
I did. My not finding what I was looking for brought me here. I see now that was a mistake. Thanks for the input though.

Re: Thread Copied from Proposed New Topics Forum
I'm unaware of any research that computer simulated temperature variables at the quantum level is being considered for the strange behavior of particles. It's theorized that the bang attained temperatures in the incomprehensible range and I , profydiddy , postulate that particles behave in this state because laws of physics haven't even been established that could account for the bizarre nature of this plank time state of particle interaction. Upon cooling, particle behavior became aligned with physical laws that came into existence to accommodate the properties that could now be applied to more coherent particle interaction. Adding incrementally simulated temperature increases to the known measurable state at the quantum level, should, like reverse engineering, eventually lead back to that mother of all anomalies the singularity or the ultimate quantum state of matter.

Re: Quantum?
You acknowledged not thinking of the word photon before I suggested it. Maybe that will make a difference.
