Trying to find - Something about quantum states

Hi, I am a student and was wondering to if anyone knows or has heard of the experiment where a quantum is passed through a dilution refrigeration towards a silicon panel and the quantum is seen to exist in 2 states at once. One being the quantum is absorbed into a panel in the fridge and the second being the quantum passes through the fridge. These events are reported to have happened simultaneously resulting in the panel being in both states as well. Really need to know what it is called so I can research it further as I myself just over heard of the experiment in passing, any information would be a great help.Edited by Adminnemooseus, : Add the "- Something about quantum states" to topic title.

I am referring to a quantum of energy. I am not sure as to the specifics of the experiment, hence why I proposed the question in the OP. If I had to guess I would say the one definition best suited to the experiment is "A quantum of energy is a little packet of energy. The quantum theory developed at the beginning of the last century tells us that energy changes in atoms happens when these little packets of energy are taken in or given out."Source: Glossary of Terms Relating to Radioactivity

Reading into the reaction between silicon and photons, as far as absorption goes, I believe you are right that the experiment might of been done with a photon.

I did. My not finding what I was looking for brought me here. I see now that was a mistake. Thanks for the input though.
