Maybe everyone has seen this - "A cat saves a child from the jaws of a dog"
Apparently a lot of security cameras there.

Three security cameras with identical resolution and aspect ratio, and with identical timestamp formatting at the top, and all synchronized to the same time, and all in working order.
And with leash laws everywhere there's a loose dog wandering the neighborhood, and with almost nobody letting their cats outside anymore this cat's outside, and at the end the mother runs away from the child.
I don't know. It all looks real, but there's so much coincidence and oddity...

Re: Maybe everyone has seen this - "A cat saves a child from the jaws of a dog"
It looks good on the video. However, I am not at all sure of what really happened.
As far as I know, it is not normal for cats to be protective of children. I've heard of a cat going after a bird, and if a child (or adult) happens to be in the way, then the child (or adult) will get a bit scratched up.
Dogs protective of children -- yes, that happens. I'm not so sure about cats.
A cat going after a dog -- yes, that happens too, but usually not to save a child.

Re: Maybe everyone has seen this - "A cat saves a child from the jaws of a dog"
That's what makes this video interesting, it's unusual. But I think cats are more loyal than they are given credit for, and this one, based on another video I saw, had been close to this child since he was an infant. I had a cat I'd rescued that would hear my car coming up the hill to my house and run down to the bottom step to greet me when I got home. More like a dog than a cat.

Simon's Cat
Love this series of cartoons about "Simon's Cat" drawn by a British guy who ended up making his cat his career. This is the first one he did a few years ago:

Lovable Loyal Lion
And here's another adorable loyal kittycat. They come in all sizes. This story is really quite sad from a number of angles but it's also a very touching story of love between animals and humans.
This is the full-length documentary about "Christian the Lion." There are shorter segments of the story at YouTube.

Re: Maybe everyone has seen this - "A cat saves a child from the jaws of a dog"
I know someone who had a Siamese, and when someone broke into their house, the cat attacked the bugler . They woke up to this guy screaming, and saw him leave the house with the cat on top of his head. Cat came back a half hour later looking very proud of himself.
One of my cats used to go protect another of my cats anytime she used to get into a fight. Think his attitude was 'That's my cat to abuse, not yours'.

Might be .. but here is a news article about it, and the video has some pictures of the dog bite.

Every Dog (and Cat) has it's Day
A rather late reply, but I suppose better than never.
Theodoric writes:
My dogs get a few a week during the summer. My dogs are the best mousers I have ever known.
Back when I lived next to an old brewery now known as the Hammel Museum in Socorro, NM, we had a female cat named Shorty that was quite petite, perhaps six pounds. The old building was overrun with rats and her count was easily a few a week despite their relative size.
However, the crown belongs to a neighbor's beagle back when I was a kid in Fresno. My neighborhood was surrounded by fig orchards which were infested with a root eating rodent the size of a hamster which were locally called gophers. Now we all know pregnancy changes a female mammal's hormonal environment, but this dog went from Gandhi to TX100 overnight, furiously digging these rodents from their burrows all its waking hours. I figure a half-dozen a day at least must have been considered slim pickings, considering the neighbor's front yard -- which looked like some gopher version of the aftermath of Pickett's Charge -- despite their desperate efforts to keep up appearances.
