My brain is a stand alone version of the most complex thing in the known universe. It is one of billions that make up humanity. Humanity more or less classes the brain as a computer, and lots of these computers independently and through a myriad of experiences called life come to the conclusion that there is a God. More people - brains - computers come to the answer 'God' than those that come to the answer 'no God'. My question is why isn't the human belief in God classed as scientific? When the most powerful computer network in the known universe comes to the answer 'God'? My brain is a stand alone version of the most complex thing in the known universe. It is one of billions that make up humanity. Humanity more or less classes the brain as a computer, and lots of these computers independently and through a myriad of experiences called life come to the conclusion that Christianity is bunk. More people - brains - computers come to the answer 'Christianity is bunk' than those that come to the answer 'Christianity is the one true religion'. My question is why isn't the human disbelief in Christianity classed as scientific? When the most powerful computer network in the known universe comes to the answer 'Christianity is bunk'?

Billions of people don't do astrology, but billions of people do belief in God. If everyone on the planet did astrology charting then of course it would become scientific because it would be shown by the whole as not to mean a damn thing.
With regard to your pen and ink analogy. I think the history of the scientific method shows that pen and ink in either the right or wrong hands produces the wrong ideas. Can you explain what you mean by wrong hands?

That's nice of you to debunk Christianity, but where did i say a single thing about Christianity? Seems like your barking up the wrong tree my canine friend. I said God, i didn't refer to any kind of religion at all.

Belief in some sort of God is based much more on tradition than experience.
How much more Paul? Being a scientific man i don't think you would of just assumed that? You must be memory quoting from a United Nations survey or something similar you have read?

Name somthing that is more complex than a chimp that comes not from this Earth, and please don't give a simpletons answer like ' the Mandelbrot set'. And please please don't even think about any of the cosmic phenomenon, any of them are like single cell amoebas compared to monkeys.

So your claim is that whatever has the majority consensus is true. If your logic is correct then these statistics support your conclusion about the existence of a god:
But we also have these statistics:
So by your same logic, although there is a god, it is not the Christian God. Obviously your logic leads to some conclusions you would favor and others you would not favor. Do you still like your logic? Of course, the logic you're applying is nonsense. The majority of humans alive at any given time have believed plenty of things that were wrong, for instance, that lightning and thunder were supernatural. --Percy Edited by Percy, : Typo.

divermike1974 writes: Well it seems that some of you have a problem with my stand alone brain/computer. A bit, yes. But it's not really the bad part. The bad part is that the human brain gets things wrong. A lot. That's what's led to things like "Never Leave a Child Behind" and "Trickle Down Economics."Science, however, gets things right. A lot. That's what's led to things like modern medicine and modern transportation. How is calling the brain the most complex thing in the KNOWN universe an un evidenced assertion? It doesn't really matter if the brain is complex or not. The brain gets things wrong a lot. Regardless of how complex it is.Science gets things right a lot. Regardless of how complex it is. That's why science is better than your brain. That's why "belief in God" is not scientific. It didn't follow the method of science that results in getting things right.

Billions of people not winning the lottery or finding love in response to their astrological readings would then through common sense stop them doing it. That equates to an exercise in the scientific method if you ask me.

and please don't give a simpletons answer like ' the Mandelbrot set'. Excuse me? Simpleton? How so? The Mandelbrot set IS, in fact, more complex that the human brain. But if you'd prefer another example, our circulatory system is more complex than our brain. So there; the brain still isn't the most complex thing. Edited by Catholic Scientist, : No reason given.

That's nice of you to debunk Christianity, but where did i say a single thing about Christianity? You didn't, but your reasoning is generally applicable. If your reasoning is valid, then it is scientific to reject Christianity, correct?

I understand where you are coming from, however you are doing the human brain a serious disservice by saying what you do. The sum total of all human activity on this planet has been the result of answers generated in human brains. How can you say it is so untrust worthy? Even the most powerful computers which started life in the human imagination are designed to make billions and billions of calculations to enable them to get the next answer they are tasked to find. The human brain as part of the network of humanity and human history does the same thing.
