Hey Oni,
Surprised you wrote that. What specifically didn't you like?
Salute to a fighter FOR THE 99%. The corporate media and americian government FOR THE 1% often called him a dictator, but ‪Chvez‬ was repeatedly elected by large margins (by elections that Pres Jimmy Carter said were the fairest in the world).
To those that continue to willfully believe that Obama is a similar socialist, you are simply retarded . . .
Inequality shrank under Chavez, poverty was dramatically reduced, education and health care improved, and illiteracy was eliminated. When the economy reeled from the 2008 global crisis, Chavez didn't bail out the banks and pander to the wealthy, but increased social spending for the most vulnerable. When cataclysmic landslides threw hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans into homelessness, Chavez housed them all.
President Obama has nearly the exact opposite track record. The big banks remain the big winners in the Obama Administration, having been bailed out and then given an endless supply of cheap money via the Federal Reserve that has boosted their profits. All of this takes place while the job crisis grinds on for working people, creating an endless supply of austerity budgets on the city, state, and national level. When new jobs become available they are below a living wage.

I can't in good conscience like anyone affiliated with Castro or someone who supports his government. Supporting Castro means you're supporting a maniac, a murderer, a lunatic dictator that many family and family of friends of mine suffered under and many were killed.
If there was nothing else about Chavez, this alone would cause me to dislike him.
Salute to a fighter FOR THE 99%.
This was not the case, this is what he claimed. Many Cubans have fled to Venezuela before Chavez took control. They were there while he was in power. The way they tell it, just as much media propaganda and deception that you and I would agree goes on here in the US is also iin full affect in Venezuela. Chavez was full of shit. All that talk about helping the poor, as with Castro, was all bullshit to get elected. And even if it was sincere at one point it did not continue to be so.
He was in the top 1% of the world along with his political friends.
Chvez‬ was repeatedly elected by large margins (by elections that Pres Jimmy Carter said were the fairest in the world).
I don't know how fair they are or were, but I can tell you that the poor to this day still support Castro in Cuba and more than likely he would have won in fair elections. People are often brainwashed into thinking things can't get better.
To those that continue to willfully believe that Obama is a similar socialist, you are simply retarded . . .
Well yeah of course. That couldn't be more wrong.

Chavez's fortune was estimated at $2 billion when he died.
He must have been really frugal with the kitchen budget or something.

Re: no thumbs up
I don't care much about movies, and less about movie reviews.
But Ebert fought his cancer with considerable courage and grace. He released photos of his disfigured face, telling friends and family who argued he shouldn't, "Why not? This is how I look."
After three failed attempts at surgical restoration, he declined a fourth round: "I decided to quit while I was behind."

"If you can keep your head while those around you are losing theirs, you can collect a lot of heads."

He seemed to know a lot about movies. He did a review on Expellled. I loved it.

No thumbs up Roger Ebert's review of "Expelled..."
He seemed to know a lot about movies. He did a review on Expellled. I loved it.
I was in the process of tracking this down.
I posted Roger's review at the "EXPELLED: No Intelligence Allowed - Science Under Attack" topic (here).
There I had quoted him:
quote:
This film is cheerfully ignorant, manipulative, slanted, cherry-picks quotations, draws unwarranted conclusions, makes outrageous juxtapositions (Soviet marching troops representing opponents of ID), pussy-foots around religion (not a single identified believer among the ID people), segues between quotes that are not about the same thing, tells bald-faced lies, and makes a completely baseless association between freedom of speech and freedom to teach religion in a university class that is not about religion.

Roger Ebert wrote the screenplays for a couple of soft-porn movies, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls and Benath the Valley of the Ultra-Vixens. At least he was human.

The Iron Lady
Maggie has popped her clogs.
She was quite the character who didn't take any shit.
RIP Prime Minister.
