Wittgenstein's Poker
BMG writes:
I imagined Wittgenstein's Poker at this point: someone "threatening visiting lecturers with pokers".
I read a book about that a few years ago and was inspired to pull it off my bookshelf once again by your reference here.
Here is a link for those unfamiliar with the book or the storry of Wittgenstein's Poker

Of course!!!! The day you two take of your aluminium helmets is the days the Earth stops spinning!

At least I still am.
Yeah I am getting younger and more naive every day.
I think we need to review the Who will be the next world power? thread and start an Obama assessment thread in light of all our comments made back then (about 6 or 7 months ago now).
I'll leave it to one of you two to suggest the exact topic. But I am up for having my face shoved in a puddle of my own wet panted naivety. If justified.

According to Smooth Operator, the earth is not spinning. So I question whether our helmet removal will achieve anything.
According to SO you and I are imbecillic deniers of real evidence. So I would keep the helmet on if I were you.

Translation: you like gay sex.
But only with my own pants? Does that really count as gay? Oooh I am sooooo sexy. Sniff. Sniff. At least this is moderately less creepy than sniffing young girls bicycle seats. Which I genuinely don't do. Often.

I'll try to start a topic soon.
Well as long as the RAZD-Straggler rhyme-off doesn't go on as long as the RAZD-Straggler thread-off I will be there!

Likewise, the greatest trick the media ever pulled was to convince society that they're making their own decisions.
But who specifically are "the media"?

C'mon, we've been over this Straggler. The media is bias to it's interests. That's not conspiratorial, is it? I thought that was common knowledge.
The media has bias to it's interests? Of course. But how many people are there with significantly different interests in the media? If your answer is "not enough" then I can only but agree. The interests are too narrow. Too few people do have far too much influence.
But I still think that the idea that "the media" has this one, or at most two, sets of long term interests that you seem to imply requires more organisation, co-operation and planning than I think is realistic. It is this I find more conspiratorial than I can sign up to.
Essentially we have my "competing dispirate interests" argument resurfacing again I suppose.

I'll keep your gracious invitation in mind. I've got no trips to London in the near future, but I'm overdue a visit to the British Museum, so I'll get back down there eventually.
Well I work round the corner from the British museum and pop in there occasionally at lunchtimes.
So it wouldn't have to be a big organised thing if ever you were in the vicinity.

Re: I'd like to have a drink with...
Well I guess there are pros and cons to life in big cities. Easy access to stuff like that is a definite bonus.
I am a big fan of the London museums in general (well in fact museums in general - but the London ones are the ones I know best). Went to college next door to the science and natural history museums in Kensington and was always in and out of those. These days I regularly take my son who is at that age where dinosuars and the animatronic TRex in particular hold a particular fascination.
The British museum does sleepover events for kids as well which I would love to take him to when a bit older.
British Museum writes:
There are four sleepovers a year when you can spend the night exploring the Museum after dark!
There’s a great range of things to get involved in, from storytelling and crafts activities to talks by curators on the permanent collection or current exhibitions. It’s a fantastic opportunity to discover the Museum and learn more about the collection — and you can bring your friends along too!

End shameless museum plug.
