My whole view is that America is a christian nation given that the predominant religion is christianity and our the majority of our traditions are christian in origin. However, our constitution is explicitly secular. Our founding documents go out of their way to exclude religion from government.
This is a good point. However, I see this as being a result of people doing what is "popular". Sheep don't stray too far from the herd. It's nationally accepted, even expected at times, that you are a christian. Everyone assumes you are a christian until you say otherwise. Majority rules, that sort of thing.

Who are we? We find that we live on an insignificant planet of a humdrum star lost in a galaxy tucked away in some forgotten corner of a universe in which there are far more galaxies than people

For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

Really Buz? THAT is the best source you can find? Let's see what they say about a few other issues:
(section titled FACTS about homosexuality)
Fact 1 - Homosexual marriage degrades a time-honored institution.
Fact 2 - Homosexual marriage would radically redefine marriage to include virtually any sexual behavior
Fact 6 - Homosexual marriage would subject children to unstable home environments
FACTS? I think not.
Really Buz? Next time, use non-biased sauce.

"Some people think God is an outsized, light-skinned male with a long white beard, sitting on a throne somewhere up there in the sky, busily tallying the fall of every sparrow. Othersfor example Baruch Spinoza and Albert Einsteinconsidered God to be essentially the sum total of the physical laws which describe the universe. I do not know of any compelling evidence for anthropomorphic patriarchs controlling human destiny from some hidden celestial vantage point, but it would be madness to deny the existence of physical laws."

Your logic is as sound as your grasp on English prose.

America and the founding fathers may not be "Christian" but we put "in God we trust" on the money for a reason.
Really? Do you really think that the founding fathers put "in god we trust" on the money? Wrong answer. The national motto, my disillusioned, misguided friend, is "e pluribus unum" which means "Out of many, one". Go ahead, look it up. You've got time. In god we trust was put there in the 1950's due to the red scare.

that's a strawman arguement.
Um, no, it's not. You tied the founding fathers into your comment about having "in god we trust" on our currency. What does one have to do with the other? Nothing.
The fact remains that is *IS* there on our money and if God didn't exist then our money would be worthless because trust is the foundation of an IOU, which is what money basically is. Obviously America is christian enough for the money system to work.
I am not even sure how to respond to that. It has got to be one of the silliest arguments I have ever encountered. The US dollar is not based on any deity. By your standard, the British Pound is based on the reality of evolution since it has Darwin on it.

If (and this is a pretty big leap given your lack of substantiating evidence) this is true...all it says is that GW got his advice from a christian guy. What's that you say? Most every white male during that time was a christian so saying he got advice from a christian guy would be like saying he had black slaves.
