I think Buz might be missing the point here... Was Schraf necessarily talking about the Christian god? There's any number of goddesses out there who wouldn't think twice about that post.
But if it was a reference to the Christian god, I'd think Buz is definitely over-reacting. If he/she/it made us in his/her/its image, well of course he/she/it must have a sense of humour!

Hey, it was just a thought.
Anyway, can you admit that the references to god in the bible as being male could just be a result of the patriarchal culture in which it was written? A few people have brought this up and it seems to be the likeliest explanation.

Well, I'd agree with you there Mike. The god portrayed in the bible does appear to be male. Whether or not the god actually is male though... I'm still going for the whole "written by men" thing as a root cause.

Don't forget that women tend to have much tougher constitutions than men, as well as higher pain thresholds. I think it has to do with the rigours of childbirth... Anyone know anything more solid than my inane guesses?

To be honest, I don't think I can begin to answer any of your questions... I just don't know. I was always lead to believe that this was the case. I noticed evidence in real life that suggested that it was true, therefore did not question its validity, etc.
Hey, does that sound familiar?
I thought that the stress that childbirth puts on women's bodies leads them to being, in general, better able to recover from illness or injury. Also they would be able to handle more intense levels of pain for the same reason. It makes some kind of sense - especially when you think about it from the view of evolution - but it's still unsupported assertation really. Anyway, I'm no biologist, so I'm more than prepared to be enlightened.

I'll second that. My brother and my mother both suffer from migraines, but my mum can just shake them off whereas my brother is usually laid up for a few days.

We're not holding this up as evidence, Ned. It's just an anecdote - I said as much that it was unsupported.
Methinks you might be getting too used to creationists using anecdotes as evidence...
