Those who wish to learn of the truly barbaric nature of circumcision, click on this link go to this website- it may change the way you view society forever...
(the following site is very graphic, but we must all face reality)
What Happens During Circumcision? (PlastiBell)
Even if circucision did have medical benefits, it is still wrong. To suggest that male circucision is right because it has medical benefits is to say that males are born defective. They must all be "fixed" because of their potentially dangerous foreskin. Men, do you really believe that you were born with a defect?

Yes. I was born with a trait that's sexually selected against, largely, in American society.
Hopefully that will no longer be true when I have sons of my own. But in the time I was born, having a foreskin would have had a detrimental effect on my sex life. Good riddance.

As this is a forum for Biblical Accuracy, I am moving this thread to the Coffee House. I also want to point out a similar thread that hasn't had traffic since 9-10-03.

Don't think anyone should be circumcised at birth, but I thought I'd respond to this anyway. Thankfully most people in my country stopped doing it many years ago.
The supposed medical benefits of circumcision result from the continual wearing of pants (Americans: in English, pants = underpants), not something we're exactly evolved for. And, yes, we are born defective for life in modern society. Otherwise I wouldn't get back ache from being slumped in front of a computer all day, nor would I consider overly fatty food highly desirable, I wouldn't need glasses, and so on.

You have a different view of sexual selection than I do, and I don't mean you're wrong to introduce variation into the definition, etc.
Do you mean women wouldn't, uh, mate with you if you had a foreskin? Has that actually happened to any foreskin-wearers out there?

A number of them - most importantly the one I'm married to - have told me exactly that.
American culture makes some pretty clear images about what a penis is "supposed" to look like, and a foreskin isn't a part of that image. On the upshot I think that's a problem that won't be a problem in 10 years or so. I'll be glad when circumcision is a non-issue but I'm not mad it happened to me.

Completely Pointless Curiosity
I've never been overly bothered by not having a foreskin either, but my male relatives in Scotland are uncircumcised except for an uncle unfortunate enough to contract diabetes late in life. My son is uncircumcised, or was when he left for school this morning. You never know these days.
I agree with you about the 'cultural consensus' concerning male genitalia. I've had women tell me they prefer circumcised penises, but it didn't seem they had enough of an aversion to flat-out refuse to have sex with a man because of the fact he wasn't circumcised. I'd like to know if any uncircumcised man has ever had a woman turn him down because of his uncut willy.

Sorry, guys. It started out that women preferred our penises because we're so good in bed, but I think it just kind of snowballed from there.

And the girls love me because my other leg has a bell on it!
