It used to be back before the hippy sixties before drugs were a significant problem that the places where the migrant workers were employed there were quarters on the property which housed them, where they were fed etc. Well that "etc" is a HUGE etc. They were housed, yes, and sometimes fed, but were also treated like shit, left to fend for themsleves and in many cases women were giving birth there. No healthcare or even medical care when injured. It was slavery with a weekly allowance. So if they did deal in drugs, and I don't think they did that much, you can't blame them for seeking the income.
Then the government got lax, drugs became a lucrative means of $$ for the ones like you have described. I'm sorry, when the hell has the government ever been laxed with drugs? - Oni

I wonder if the Reverend Gary Davis was a "hippy" when he recorded Cocaine Blues around 1905? And some images of that housing for migrant workers from the Library of Congress.

During the great depression that may have been more typical, when the nation was suffering a drought in the Midwest along with poverty and unemployment. Judging from the automobiles etc, that's likely what period this was cherry picked from. My post applied to the 1950s to 1970s when the conditions of the migrants would have been similar to a lumberman's camp in the West. The migrants were as grateful for the employment as the growers were to have them. The consumers were grateful for the abundance of food produced. It was a win-win for the nation in those days. Today it's a win-win for the drug cartels, for the politicians who allow its, for the Obama Democrats who afford them voting privileges so as to remain in power. BUZSAW B 4 U 2 C Y BUZ SAW. Too funny Buz.
Now you change your time line to 50s-70s. Well guess what, I can tell you about that period as well, 'cause I worked picking crops in the 50s and let me tell you, there was no housing, no free meals, no health care. Or maybe you never heard of Caesar Chavez? Or maybe never heard of Deaf Smith County? Shall we discuss the 40s? I have pictures from then as well. By the way, the pictures I posted were NOT of the Dust Bowl or Great Depression, they were migrant farmers.Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

...the Christians were forced to organize a resistance....
Do you mean the Lord's Resistance Army perhaps? The group that was declared a terrorist organization by President Bush. The group that has been accused of using child soldiers, rape, mutilation, sexual enslavement and mass murder. The group that is lead by a self proclaimed spokesman for god and medium for the holy spirit. Let me guess you heard this from noted drug addict Rush Limbaugh and took it for gospel truth? edited to add: Also the US troops are being sent to Uganda not Sudan Edited by DrJones*, : No reason given.God separated the races and attempting to mix them is like attempting to mix water with diesel fuel.- Buzsaw Message 177 It's not enough to bash in heads, you've got to bash in mindssoon I discovered that this rock thing was true Jerry Lee Lewis was the devil Jesus was an architect previous to his career as a prophet All of a sudden i found myself in love with the world And so there was only one thing I could do Was ding a ding dang my dang along ling long - Jesus Built my Hotrod Ministry Live every week like it's Shark Week! - Tracey Jordan Just a monkey in a long line of kings. - Matthew Good If "elitist" just means "not the dumbest motherfucker in the room", I'll be an elitist! - Get Your War On *not an actual doctor

Buz writes: I'm one of those Social Security recipients. I, along with most of us paid our dues/taxes for our SS retirement . I paid non-inflated hard earned $$ for 40 years to pay for the pittance of inflated $$ I'm getting back; about enough to keep me from freezing and starvation. Had I been allowed to invest all of this money in money markets, etc, I'd be living on easy street today. I was paying in 25 cent gasoline money and getting back $3.00 gasoline money. Let's see: 25 cent gasoline was about 1960. Are you claiming there was no inflation prior to the 1960s? Wherever your money was invested, your return would have been eroded by inflation. I'd be interested to hear the numbers you use to derive "easy street" income from the equivalent of your life-time Social Security withholding. I've heard the claim many times, but a close look at the numbers usually shows that the assumptions are wildly unrealistic. One site, for example, posits an annual return of 10% and applies it to the maximum Social Security withholding in order to conclude that we'd all be better off without Social Security. Others use similar, wishful-thinking scenarios, such as assuming an employer would have given you the Social Security matching tax as a tax-free IRA, etc. None of the models I've examined have used a real world money market fund's track record to plug in average SS contributions and derive credible results. Nor do these anti-SS analyses consider the private cost of disability and survivor benefits. So what numbers are you using when you make this claim? If it's based on someone else's analysis, a link, name or web address would be good.
Our Organizer in Chief is organizing his promised civilian army revolution so as to keep his promise of changing America so as for it to be compatible with he, his close bud, Bill Ayres, violent Weather Underground terrorist, America hater/pastor/former Nation Of Islam member/ bud of Louis Farrakahn, self avowed Communist/socialist, Frank Marshal Davis, etc, etc. In order to fundamentally transform our nation into what Bill Ayers et al fail to do violently, the Organizer In Chief plans to achieve chaos and mayhem, destroy the American &&, undermine our only ally in the Mid East, Israel and empower the Islamic Brotherhood in nations like Egypt, Labia, (now Sudan) and other nations. The best way to Occupy Wall Street is to buy from your local independent merchants and local family farmers, put your money in small local credit unions or town banks and avoid purchasing anything made by the top profiteering corporations of the world. Take your money out of the stock market - it's condoned gambling run by the best loan sharking cheaters on the planet. You are all their rubes.
If you see it advertised on major TV, boycott it. If it's advertised in magazines, boycott it. Advertising in fact is the best way of telling you when NOT to buy something - a great reverse barometer. Trust only your friends and their word of mouth and your own experiences. There was a time when lawyers and doctors and teachers were respected here in the USA. May stock brokers and big bankers sink even lower to the lowest of the low in respectability. They are slime. As long as we all keep feeding Wall Street, they will continue to devour our bodies and our minds with impunity by imposing their politicians upon us. This should be capitalism in action, folks.- xongsmith, 5.7d

It would be better if we could somehow boycott the US military and the companies that profit from the tyranny, oppression and death they produce. $1.2 TRILLION, EVERY year, can be spent on better things. As you changed your post to say "trillion" instead of "billion", I shall withdraw mine. Which is a shame, 'cos I had some good sarcasm going there.

Yah sure, like all of the city folks are going to run out and find a farmer to by dinner, produce, home canned peaches, pressed cider, whole hog sides, live steers to butcher, lumber to build your house and garage with, etc, etc. You may be their rube, but I'm grateful for all that the free market enterprise system, including Wall Street affords me. If Wall Street were blown to bits tomorrow, can you imagine the panic you and all of those nincompoops out their yelling their fool heads off about ?? would be caught up in along with the whole nation? I suppose you supported the rescue of the U.S. automotive industry for similar reasons."If you can keep your head while those around you are losing theirs, you can collect a lot of heads."

Yah sure, like all of the city folks are going to run out and find a farmer to by dinner, produce, home canned peaches, pressed cider, whole hog sides, live steers to butcher, lumber to build your house and garage with, etc, etc. You are a hoot. Let see here. Xongsmith mentions local independent merchants and local family farmers, credit unions and small town banks, which you actually quoted, but you build your whole argument on one thing, farmers. Either you are extremely dishonest or let you preconceived ideas so blind you that you can not even read what people write.
If Wall Street were blown to bits tomorrow, can you imagine the panic you and all of those nincompoops out their yelling their fool heads off about ?? Funny how I do not recall anyone advocating this. Do you have anything but strawmen to add to the conversation.Facts don't lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts
