Acknowledge?
How does one acknowledge a post, as opposed to responding?

Chat
Quick question; was there ever a chat option here? Click box, chat with other members? A chat app?
Quick suggestion; can we get one?
Quick analysis; if there was does it detract from the debate from any? For instance, people will stop commenting and instead just chat?
I think it would be nice if you could chat here with other members are real time speed every so often.
Go into chat, ask some questions, people will be able to see you are not being condescending, arrogant, etc etc.
Just some thoughts on chat.

I think it is on the to do list.

Re: Chat
F&L is correct, it's on the todo list, but you are correct, too, we did used to have chat. It was provided by third party software. Initially it was free, then $10/year, then $25/year, then $75/year. At the last price hike I disabled the feature, and I don't know what the price is now.
But because I want to take this discussion board software commercial I couldn't continue to use 3rd party software anyway. We have to have our own native chat facility, and it is on the todo list, but the programming department is a bit shorthanded and there is no schedule at present.

Re: Chat
You could always start an IRC channel if you wanted and then folk could chat.

Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

Hi Percy,

What is the difference between a chat function and open discussion on an open forum thread?
Why not just have a "CHAT" forum and people can start chats on any topic, discuss them, and do anything you can do in a chat room, couldn't they?
Put it in Side Orders with minimal moderation.

CHAT
Interested in free ranging and unencumbered chats with other members with minimal moderation? Want to branch off from existing threads and not be tied to a topic? Then this is the forum for you. Just keep it legal and "family friendly".
Just a thought. Certainly could be an interim solution?
Enjoy.

Re: Chat forum?
The difference is in timing, a live chat session is quite different from an ongoing discussion on a message board. To get the same sort of experience on a normal EVC thread all the participants would need to be clicking on refresh about once a second.

There should be ZERO moderation in chat. Second, a chat would be private (save for Percy being able to view the logs) without the community being able to intrude on the conversation.

Re: Chat
It's a shame it will take time to do a chat function; I really enjoyed it when we had the feature, here.

The above ontological example models the zero premise to BB theory. It does so by applying the relative uniformity assumption that the alleged zero event eventually ontologically progressed from the compressed alleged sub-microscopic chaos to bloom/expand into all of the present observable order, more than it models the Biblical record evidence for the existence of Jehovah, the maximal Biblical god designer.
-Attributed to Buzsaw Message 53
Moreover that view is a blatantly anti-relativistic one. I'm rather inclined to think that space being relative to time and time relative to location should make such a naive hankering to pin-point an ultimate origin of anything, an aspiration that is not even wrong.
Well, Larni, let's say I much better know what I don't want to say than how exactly say what I do.

Re: Chat
Well like Jar says, it wouldn't be hard to arrange an IRC channel somewhere that people could use until there is a formal chat system.

Re: Chat forum?
Limit the posts to 200 characters and it should not take that long to make a post and then see the rest of the posts when it refreshes.
