Little nit pick. You have Like/Dislike, but the hands are Dislike and then Like. Just a consistency thing.

I, for one, loath that feature.
Message rating systems really dont do anything good. This thumbs up and down does not better it in any way. What is this? FaceEvolutionVsCreationBook?

Have to say that the thumb icons look appalling and seriously cheapen the look of the site. The site really cannot afford any further loss in professionalism given my own over-abundant use of smilies.

Have to say that the thumb icons look appalling and seriously cheapen the look of the site. I kind of thought the same thing, no offense to Percy. They also seem much too far apart. Maybe a simple +/- to replace the 'Like/Dislike...' line would provide a more compact and professional look... JonLove your enemies!

I can specify other icons easily through the control panel, but someone will have to provide the alternative icons. As I've mentioned before, graphics isn't my strong suit. People should either create some icons, or point me to some open-source icons on the Internet.
I do have a star icon I can use in place of thumbs-up, but what would I use in place of thumbs-down? A black hole, perhaps? I am facile enough with GIMP to change icon colors and make minor modifications, but creating anything but the simplest of icons is beyond my abilities, as proof I offer the current message rating icons.

You've already got the smilies. Use a smile for like and a frown for dislike.
Those red hands are distracting.

I like the smilies idea, I'll add them to the icon list for message rating.

Yellow is good for like, maybe use the light blue for dislike.

Light blue or yellow for the "thumbs up" and brown or green for the "thumbs down" smilies.

Light blue... for the "thumbs up" and... green for the "thumbs down" smilies. I like this - keeps it muted. Nice and professional

Green for like, red for dislike. It's the accepted standard.

They make the sidebar too wide, couldn't you put them closer together?

I can only see the thumbs for other people. My own posts the thumb-ups and downs I receive are hidden. Unless I swap to AdminModulous and then I get to see the thumbs up and who placed them for Modulous' posts. I can also thumb-up my own posts (as Adminmodulous I can upthumb Modulous' posts) which doesn't seem like intended behaviour.
