If you really want to try to understand Joseph, your own field might give you some clues. You must have come across people who have constructed a reality of their own, and also appear to have a kind of language disorder which leads to them frequently employing phrases that are incomprehensible to others.
Invariably, they cannot perceive what is wrong with their language use and correct it.
Try getting IaJ to express himself consistently in comprehensible English, and my guess is that he will not be able to. He won't understand his faults.
As for British schools, some ultra-orthodox Jewish schools in the country may actually be teaching something akin to Joseph's "reality". Apart from feeling sorry for the handful of kids concerned, that's not really a major national issue.
