dBoard 4.0 Release is Complete!
EvC Forum is now using dBoard 4.0, a PHP implementation. You should notice that the file extensions are now .php.
References to the old .cgi files are automatically mapped to .php.
You will have to log in again. If you've forgotten your password then click on this link to Request a New Password. Enter your email address and click on Request Password. A link will be email'd to you that will allow you to set a new password.
If you've forgotten the email address under which you registered then send email to admin@evcforum.net along with your account name and I will try to help you.
AbE: You will have to click on your browser's reload or refresh button. This will load the latest version of Javascript code. It isn't essential, but some features will not work without it, such as acknowledging or rating messages.

Re: dBoard 4.0 Release is Complete!
I'm unable to duplicate this. I've turned on error logging, so can you try to reproduce the problem, but like this:
  1. Click on your browser's refresh button.
  2. Click on "All Topics"
If you see the errors again then they're in the log and I can debug based on that. If there were no errors this time, well, good!

Re: dBoard 4.0 Release
Sorry, no new features. This release is just a translation from Perl to PHP. I did notice and fix a number of minor bugs during the translation, and perhaps the width issue was one of them.
I have a list of new features on my todo list a mile long, so if you or anyone wants to help me prioritize by telling me what you'd like to see then just post them to this thread.

Re: Bug?
I used an arrow because I had already proven to myself how bad I am at designing icons, and arrows are about the only thing I'm half good at, but maybe an arrow isn't even the right icon. Anyway, when I originally chose a left arrow I didn't consider up or down arrows because it seemed like most people would think they would be the top or bottom of a thread, but I had no criteria for choosing between left and right.
Anyway, what icon would you like to see? Maybe Codegate will see this, he's been helping out with themes - there's only one now, but soon there will be more, user selectable.

Re: dBoard 4.0 Release
First make sure you've clicked on the browser's refresh or reload button. If you've done that then I'm not sure where to go next. Are you clicking on the search button in the menubar? Or are you typing into the quicksearch box, then clicking on it's search button?

To everyone: I know this is getting repetitive, but thanks for the bug reports. The board now has far too many features for me to test everything.

Re: dBoard 4.0 Release
I had no idea anyone was using the Latex codes, so I didn't bother translating that code. If more than 0 members are using them then I'll do the translation soon. Or were you just testing?

If you've already clicked on the browser's Reload/Refresh button then I don't know what to suggest. The message rating function is performed by Javascript/Ajax code, but most browsers only load this code once per session, unless you explicitly click Reload/Refresh. Since this code changed with dBoard 4.0 it is necessary to make sure you've loaded the latest Javascript/Ajax code and click the Reload/Refresh button.

I was able to rate nwr's message, but I do see a couple problems. I won't be able to work on this until tomorrow, and then we'll see if fixing the problems I see addresses the problems that you see.

There may be a slight delay...
Decided to install battery backup today, I'd been putting it off because it means I have to move some things around, so I went down to my local Best Buy and asked what size battery backup I needed. I explained I only needed it for 30 seconds until the generator kicks in. The helpful associate said the smallest would do fine, the box said 225 watts. I said I had a big computer. He said it would be fine. I said really big. He said it would be fine. I said the graphics card has cooling tubes. The box has three fans. It doubles as a space heater. He said it would be fine.
I should have looked up the power requirements of my computer before I went down there, because when I hooked everything up the battery backup overload indicator went on immediately. I shut everything off and spent 10 minutes before finally finding the specs that came with my computer when I bought it about 5 years ago. My computer uses 750 watts.
So tomorrow I have to go back to Best Buy (after it opens) and buy a bigger battery backup. Given the power requirements I'll have to buy one of the bigger ones and I don't know where I'm going to put it, so this might take a while.
I'll look at the problems in the morning, but if I don't finish before noon then it'll probably have to wait until Monday.
If anyone has battery backup recommendations, now is the time...
