Analyze the situation. Appeal to the present and to the past to determine what went wrong.
Eliminate the causes of that wrong.
Take steps to lessen the effect of that wrong.
Fair enough.
The article claims that the economy is basically already destroyed. The damage has been done. Jar mentioned this also. (why is he usually right?) If the future is gonna be this bleak, why even dream the dream anymore?
The goal should be to try to make the future as bright as possible; but that cannot be done as long as we deny there is anything wrong or keep repeating what has failed in the past.

Re: Let's have the wealthy speak out in favor of higher taxes
Amen Brother, Preach the Gospel.
Just removing the cap would make Social Security Solvent.
Then put the Chinese Wall back in place so that funds in Social Security cannot get redirected or "borrowed" to be used in the General Fund.
It really is that simple.

Re: Should The Wealthy Recover Most?
Phat writes:
so are you saying that since the rich lost more they should benefit more from a recovery?
If a wealthy businessman has no customers who can afford his products, he will not recover either.
It's a big world. They no longer have to depend on the US market.
Us = 307 Million customers.
China = 1.3 BILLION customers.
India = 1.2 BILLION customers.
Vietnam = 87 Million customers.
Brazil = 193 Million customers.
Indonesia = 230 Million customers.
Pakistan = 176 Million customers.
Bangladesh = 150 Million customers.
Nigeria = 160 Million customers.
Russia = 142 Million customers.
The US just is not needed as a market anymore.

And I assume that includes labor market as well?
How can we make ourselves needed? And who is it that we are making need us anyway?
That's really an important question.
What would make a US worker of value?
What could we do that would increase the net value of US workers?
One possibility would be to have the US worker better educated in areas like discrimination, critical thinking, imagination, creativity, history, a general cross specific, broad education. But that really needs to start by first educating the population that will be the parents and grandparents of those workers.
But remember, each of those customers listed above are also potential workers.

But to whom is it that we'd be making ourselves more valuable?
Ourselves in the end.

The End, eh...What End? Are we supposed to suck it up and become a 3rd world nation for a hundred years while we fix what was broken? Try telling that to the guy with a Dodge ram and a gun-rack behind the seat. The same guy who believes that this nation was favored and blessed by God. If the corporations (mainly run by G.O.P.) abandon the American worker in favor of cheaper foreign labor, there will be a war. And can you blame the people for feeling cheated?
Of course I can blame it on the people feeling cheated.
It is up to the folk in the US whether or not the decide to become a third world nation.
Just where will the "war" be and just how will that fix anything?

No. You can blame the sheeple who drank the ("God dam America") Obama/Wright koolaid. As per his/their agenda, he aspires for all nations to become third 3rd world Nations of Islam, leaving the sheeple of America no liberty to decide.
(abe: The war will culminate at Armageddon in Jerusalem, the last bastion of independence. Righteous King/Messiah Jesus will do the fix )
I rest my case.
It is ideas like Buz expresses that should be scaring the hell out folk and that have destroyed at least the next fifty years or so for Americans and that will, if they implemented, will destroy the rest of the world as well.
Go back and look at the list of nations I mentioned and notice that all of them are actively encouraging their people to learn, to advance, to innovate, to create.
