I've been playing an online version of Risk at a site I'd be delighted to share with anyone who wanted to join me in a game. They have a variety of different user-created maps, and different sets of rules available to choose from. There is free play available, and paid memberships as well. Normally free play members are limited in what maps they can play, but paid members, such as me, can create private games and invite whomever they wish.
Anyone interested post here and I'll send you the particulars and we can get started. Or, if it won't put Percy's nose out of joint, I'll just post the website here and we can use this thread to organize games.

I used to love that game years ago.
Lately I've been playing a browser game called KingsAge. That has been a great substitute!

Back in boarding school we used to play risk, then we cut out a five foot sheet of plywood and made our own highly awesome board. Since then I haven't ever found a good online substitute, where's it at?
Edited by Itinerant Lurker, : No reason given.

Well, it depends. I haven't played a real time game, where you have 5 minutes to take your turn. The games I play take days, with a minimum of 24 hours to take your turn when your turn comes up. Obviously, those games take days, but it doesn't require you to commit to a specific period of time. You just need to check in once a day or so. The more often you check in, the quicker the games go.
