Hello, I am Dan and I am a new member. I am wondering how many Christians and creationists there are compared to evolutionists and agnostics and creationists in this forum.

Hi Dan.
Most people accept the Theory of Evolution as the best explanation for the diversity of life on Earth. There's some that reject it, some that think its incomplete, and some that simply haven't been convinced yet. There's only a handful of YEC's. There's a good amount of christians, and a few more non-christian theists and deists and agnostics. Most people are on the left side of the political spectrum. All-in-all, its a pretty good variety. I'm christian, I accept evolution, but I also think god created the universe. So what does that make me? Also, does it matter? Why do you care?

I think there is a very even distribution between creationists on one side and creationists on the other. On a more serious note, your question is currently unanswerable, due to 2 reasons:1) The people posting on this forum have not all declared their religious position. 2) There are far more people reading than posting. (e.g. currently 17 members, 29 visitors).

Hi, Dan.
Welcome to EvC! Generally speaking, you'll probably see a lot more evolutionist activity here than creationist, but we also have a handful of high-calibre creationist/IDist posters that are currently participating (Aaron, shadow71 and slevesque are the ones I'm thinking of). I think the demographic is also canted toward the atheist side of the spectrum, but there are enough theists, deists and agnostics to keep it interesting. I'm sure you'll find your niche here, whatever your views are. Jump on in! -Bluejay (a.k.a. Mantis, Thylacosmilus) Darwin loves you.

And I'll add that the admins keep a close watch on the discussion, and are always willing to listen if anyone feels they are being treated unfairly.

Hello Dan! Welcome to the forum.
I am wondering how many Christians and creationists there are compared to evolutionists and agnostics and creationists in this forum. I don't think you'll at all find these categories completely exclusive. We've several members here who are Christians that also accept the theory of evolution. Myself, I am a Theist, meaning I believe in the existence of GOD. I am also an Empiricist, and a Rationalist, with a large dose of Skepticism thrown in. Greetings, Dan. Science groupie and atheist here.
I'm curious about why you mentioned the specific groups that you did. Do you think it contradictory for someone to be a Christian and an "evolutionist?" If so, why? Also, do you think "evolutionists" are somehow different from what most people would simply call a scientist? If so, why? I hope you enjoy your time here. Hi Dan. Question? What does it matter what the make up of the members here are? From what I can see there is everything from Fundamentalist to Atheist from hard core Creationist to Hard-core Evolutionist. Just your run of the mill party crowd.

Well, it might matter to him to know if there is much of a balanced viewpoint here. Which, of course, the answer to that is absolutely not.
As one pointed out, there are less than 5 regular contributors who don't believe in evolution, and it is really more like just 2, sleevesque and shadow71, who write very much (and it should be pointed out that their style is very mild and un-confrontational- an important distinction compared to the styles of many of the evolutionists here). At some points there were more people who were willing to challenge and debate some of these hard core evolutionists, but most of those posters (including myself) have simply grown tired of the unequal treatment in moderation, and the continuation of ad hoc nonsense that one has to put up with here to bother contributing any further. Arguments from non-evolutionists are derailed by silly name calling and by gross false semantic objections that destroy the communication process. So to be honest, to answer your question, the amount of diversity is extremely low. Note: I suspect that I will be told this answer is off-topic, when in fact it is completely on topic, but this is what often happens to opposing viewpoints, and probably the greatest reason why there is little diversity. Edited by Bolder-dash, : No reason given.

You yourself, you know, have the option of making frequent posts of substance rather than dropping in at random lengthy intervals to contribute your usual childish whining about the people who disagree with you. Or at least in principle you have that option. It is not equally clear that you have the capacity.

Why would anyone tell you your answer is off-topic? I think you should be congratulated for finally finding an appropriate thread for the complaints that you repeatedly make in all other threads where they're not on-topic. By the way, in case Dan would like an example of your own behavior in order to judge just how much weight to grant your criticisms, here's an example of the standards you set for discussion, taken from your Message 622 over in the Potential falsifications of the theory of evolution thread:

Hi Dan,
Hello, I am Dan and I am a new member. I am wondering how many Christians and creationists there are compared to evolutionists and agnostics and creationists in this forum. Welcome to the board. I don't think you can put christians and evolutionists in separate camps automatically. I believe in evolution, but I also believe that the theory as per Darwin, neo-Darwianian and modern current Darwinian advocates is not complete and there is much room for modifications adjustments and improvements to the theory. I am Roman Catholic and believe the Catholic Theological position fits in with evolution and Christianity. I have problems with "random mutation" as an explanation of evolution and "natural" selection. Don't know your postion on evolution, but a good read is James A. Shapiro, Univ. Chicago, for a theory that I belive is the one for the future. It is a very interesting group of people, more scientists than non, but, I have found as a lay man, that, most, are usually willing to explain the science in a really logical and concrete way w/o being condescending.Note I said Most. A suggestion is that you read and be well versed on the subject you post on and be ready to defend your point of view.
