God doesn't talk to people as a voice in their head,.. that is extra biblical revelation. God speaks through his Word, the holy Scripture not some mystical voice in some ones head.
Then by what means is the correct interpretation of scripture made, as there are many different interpretations?

Re: there should be a "War on Christmas"
Hi Peg,
We meet again. I guess this is a thread about Christmas being evil because it's not in the bible? I guessed it backwards then. Some things just aren't worth reading.
So Christmas is kind of like the evil grapefruit that is not found there either..
Let's see, a Christmas tree could be symbolic of the tree of life and that would definitely be evil I guess.
The point of the previous post, though its OT, is that 'sola scriptura', is self contradictory as there are many interpretations floating about.

Actually, no, its not there. The term Christmas is actually a derivative of two words...."Christ Mass". Anyone familiar with Catholicism knows what "Mass" is.
It is also important to note that it was the RCC that required the recognition of Christs birth to be on Dec 25th. Most will say this is incorrect because the Bible doesnt say when Christ was born. This would also be incorrect. While its true that Christ was not born on Dec 25th, the Bible does in fact explain when Christ was born. You just have to know a little history of the Hebrew Calendar as well as the history of Jewish priestly courses, in this case, the Levitical Courses.

Straggler;
Just to make sure we are on the same page I am talking about preaching the Word, not "witnessing" door to door, or on the street corner or protests and rallies. I am talking about preaching the Word of God as it is instructed on Lord's Day to a congregation.
But to what end?
Preaching seems paradoxically pointless in light of what you have said about predetermined salvation.
You are not just preaching to the converted. You are preaching to those who could never be anything but converted regardless of your preachings.

christmas has nothing to do with interpretation because there is nothing to interpret.
Its an additive...an unnecessary additive.

This is the reason for the comment. It had nothing to do with the OP. I was attempting to help SP see the self-contradictory nature of his viewpoint.

Re: It's that time of year again ... when christians wage war on Yuletide
I dunno if it has been mentioned though an interesting fact came to mind
During WW1 on one of the fronts:
The Germans began by placing candles on their trenches and on Christmas trees, then continued the celebration by singing Christmas carols. The British responded by singing carols of their own. The two sides continued by shouting Christmas greetings to each other. Soon thereafter, there were excursions across the 'No Man's Land', where small gifts were exchanged, such as food, tobacco and alcohol, and souvenirs such as buttons and hats. The artillery in the region fell silent that night. The truce also allowed a breathing spell where recently-fallen soldiers could be brought back behind their lines by burial parties. Joint services were held. The fraternisation was not, however, without its risks; some soldiers were shot by opposing forces. In many sectors, the truce lasted through Christmas night, but it continued until New Year's Day in others.

It was a pagan holiday long before Jesus was a gleam in Yahweh's eye. Do all the Christians refuse to decorate Christmas trees?

Actually, it is, by far, the largest piston in the economic engine of Western economies that has been cleverly disguised as a secular holiday with a few leftover religious overtones.

If this topic is to be revived, participants need to reacquaint themselves with the OP (Message 1) and the point of the topic. Don't just go by the title.
I want to discuss this so called "War on Christmas" that comes up every year. I know a big part of it is the removal of manger scenes from public parks and such. But I suspect it is huge issue nationwide created by fundies. I would like to hear of examples and possibly refutations. I don't know where this should be promoted, Faith and belief?
Also remember this is not the Coffee House Forum, the Free For All Forum or a Humor thread.
This thread is in the Comparative Religions Forum and we ask that religious issues be treated respectfully.
