I hear that Honda is better than Toyota. Anyone else know what I mean? Not quite sure ... Does this mean your taste in cars sucks?

You're not watching the current world cup match are you ? No ... no, I admit. Not like it's real football or anything. So I'm not missing anything important except maybe the car commercials.

I didn't even know the USA had a soccer team, I mean its soccer, who the hell cares, isn't that sport for girls anyway? Indeed it is. Even at the International level apparently. Taz was just saying something about some Japanese girls driving around South Africa in a Honda. I guess they won their game and were out celebrating or something. I didn't get much more than that.

How dare they shoot so pathetically that it surprises our highly trained goalkeeper into submission on the basis of shock poorness. Don't knock it, Limey, it worked didn't it! Good Ol' Yankee ingenuity. Y'all fell for it again, just like some 200 years ago. ----------------------------------------------------- I do have an on-topic question. Saw the rankings of, Group G or something. Brazil had 1(win) 0(loss) 0(tie) for 3 point then +1 GDNorth Korea had 0, 0, 1 for 0 points and -1 GD What is this GD thingie? It's not "soccer", it's football - called that because it's the game where the foot is used to move the ball (the clue is in the title). Absurd! Soccer is soccer, always has been, always will be.
Real Football is where you pick up the ball and throw it down the field with your arms (no your arms don't go down field with the ball, they stay attached to your body, otherwise it's a penalty.). First you'll notice that the ball used in soccer is round! It's not oblong like a real football. You pick it up and throw it and the damn thing just spins. No tight spiral along the greater axis (since the stupid thing doesn't have one) and thus no distance or accuracy. Look at the way a typical non-football soccer game is played. No one even touches the damn ball! No one picks it up and runs with it, no one picks it up and passes it down the field. It's like the poor thing is diseased and no one wants to touch it! Absurd. Look at the kicks and head-butts. Again no accuracy. The ball bounces every which way. No wonder no one ever scores in this so called sport. You run up and down the field with the ball going willy-nilly all over the place for 90 damn minutes and end up with an aggregate score of 0. Nothing. Nada. Look at all the games played so far in this presumptuously named World Cup and you get an average aggregate score of less than 1 per game! How the hell can you have a sport that has no scoring? That's not football. That's soccer. Absurd. We're all supposed to be kind and tolerant, accepting of other cultures' strange and weird mores, but this just goes too far. Some things in this world are just sacred (though not in a religious sense unless you're a Cowboys fan). Soccer is soccer. It is NOT football! It can hardly even be called a sport. This is another one of those instances where the damn foreigners in this world will just have to bow to the intellectual superiority of the American race. Damn foreigners. Absurd. NASCAR is continuous, for hours, unless there is a wreck. It manages to be televised, AND have commercials. Hey, that's right! And in soccer you could break for 80% of the game and still come back to a 0-0 score. You could have 5 minutes of game then 20 minutes of car and lawyer commercials and not miss a thing. Kinda like late night shows.

Can you really not see the beauty in a 0-0 result? Yes. I cannot see any beauty in a sport where scoring is apparently not allowed.
how tedious would it be if all that ended in something as crass as watching some goals being scored, rather than a glorious sense of deflation? I have already experienced maximal deflation for a period of years. I was married.

I'm sorry to hear about your marriage, but pleased you can console yourself playing with your odd-shaped balls. I appreciate your sympathy. Thank you for that. And yes, I did get to keep my balls ... all 5 of them. Back to OP: I note that Uruguay made 3 goals on South Africa. SA apparently played the game well as they did not score any goals. Uruguay erred in scoring. Three times. Is there a penalty in ranking for having violated the rules? Are they eliminated from the competition? Edited by AZPaul3, : No reason given.

"Calamity" James? Does England not have any goalies?
So for Team USA we need England/Algeria to have the standard 0-0 soccer outcome (boring) then go on to beat Algeria later on, yes? Not that I've become the least bit interested in any of this silliness, mind you. Just asking if my assessment of the situation has any intellectual merit.

No, you need England to win. How so? If England wins that gives them 4 points at the top of the group with Slovenia then USA third. An England tie puts Slovenia at 4 with England, USA second at 2 each. Where is the advantage in an England win? Edited by AZPaul3, : No reason given.

After Wednesday I may renounce all interest in this world cup and become a Miami Dolphins fan or something. There are more viable alternatives to the stinky florida fish. The vaunted Cowboys for instance. While we have no great need to proselytize for our fan base we do want to offer you the best there is in an object deserving of your fandom. Should you decide to make a change in your sporting allegiance there are certain incentives we can offer in exchange for your support. We can offer you game day tickets at half the going scalp rate at the gate. We can offer you whatever Cowboys memorabilia you may desire from caps, pennants and jerseys to wall clocks, underwear and plant hangers all at the most reasonable semi-quality knock-off prices imaginable. We can even offer you cheap private visitation with some of the most available rejected Cowgirl wannabees from anywhere in the world. Give it some thought before you decide. We know you have choices and we appreciate this opportunity to present our offer to you. We hope you will consider our offer and we look forward to your future support. Remember the Silver and Blue and that fish is for Fridays.
DISCLAIMER: AZPaul3 Cowboys Fandom Enterprises is not associated with the Dallas Cowboys Football Organization, Jerry Jones Enterprises, AZPaul3 or the National Football League in any way. Offer is void where prohibited by law or common sense or in any jurisdiction where promissory default may be actionable as a tort liability. Edited by AZPaul3, : added usual and customary disclaimer as required.

In keeping with good business practices we need to inform you that a disclaimer was added to our offer in flight with your response. We apologize for any inconvenience this may yet cause you.
And let's also sign one up to play in goal for England. Again we apologize for any inconvenience but after advancing your proposal to several associates we regret to inform you that none of our associates have agreed to participate on the losing side of this pending disaster. "Fuck off!" seems to be the consensus response.

Who else really feel sorry for North Korea? Lost to Portugal by... drum roll... 7 goals. It is not the nation but the individual coaches and athletes I feel for. I do not want to imagine what they and their families may be in for when they get home. Such things are not unheard of in closed regimes.
