Have some older threads been removed when the board was updated? I was trying to find RAZD's old thread "Sexual Selection, Stasis, Runaway Selection, Dimorphism, & Human Evolution", but it doesn't appear in the search and links to it in other threads don't seem to work.

How about those links?
...and links to it in other threads don't seem to work.
Having links to those other threads might be useful.
And/or the links to the topic in question.

But anyway...
Doing a thread title search for "sexual" in "Search All Open Forums" finds Sexual Selection, Stasis, Runaway Selection, Dimorphism, & Human Evolution at the bottom of the page.
Doing a message search does not find it.

Added by edit 2: Having the links to the messages contain the alleged bad links would still be a good thing.

Re: But anyway...
Thank you very much. I had been searching for "sexual selection" in thread title, which oddly doesn't return any results. When that didn't work, I looked in this thread: why is the lack of "fur" positive Progression for humans?, and tried the links in message 9 and 10, neither of which worked. Now that I look at the link locations though (copied below), they seem to be missing the evcforum.net domain name for some odd reason.
EvC Forum: Sexual Selection, Stasis, Runaway Selection, Dimorphism, & Human Evolution
EvC Forum: Sexual Selection, Stasis, Runaway Selection, Dimorphism, & Human Evolution
When I put the evcforum.net back in, they take me to the Windsor Castle and Welcome, newbies threads.

Attn Percy - Look at this
I had been searching for "sexual selection" in thread title...
It work, but only if you do not have the " marks included.
Those links are even more screwed up if you look at them via "edit" (which an admin can do) or if you look at them via "peek" (which anyone can do). I can't quote them as they appear in "peek" - the code and /code code doesn't help preserve the raw text form. Anyway, there is a "http://" and a "http://www.///" there.
I find it hard to believe that RAZD had screwed them up that way, but maybe.
Percy should look at this.

Re: Attn Percy - Look at this
I'll look at these problems tonight:
  • Possible errors in the number of slashes in URLs.
  • Failure to find quoted strings in thread title searches.
Both problems should be easy to fix. Thanks to Caffeine and Moose for finding/researching this.

Another new problem is that Google searches of EvC Forum still return old URLs for threads and messages, and these URLs won't work because the thread and message IDs have changed. I have been assuming that Google would eventually purge this obsolete search information itself, but apparently not. I've heard rumors that it is possible to request Google to reindex a site, and I will attempt to do that tonight, also.

Re: But anyway...
Title searches using quoted strings such as "sexual selection" now work. Thanks for finding the bug!!

linking to old messages, threads
Is there any way to translate old links to the appropriate threads and messages?
If we can at least link messages then threads would be linked to the "m=1#1" at the end.
I have a lot of bookmarks that are now invalid.

I'm planning on working on this this weekend, I'll see what I can do.

Old Links Fixed
I mentioned this already over in the dBoard 3.0 Beta Release Today thread, but the problem with old style links not working is now fixed. Please let me know if you notice any more occurrences of this problem.

reopen
I did a search on site: EvC Forum: Home Page "created old" and found this result.
EvC Forum: God used Evolution in 6 days
(curiously sorted for member 88 - moose - only -- is this a glitch? at first I thought only two posts were kept from the original thread)
This thread is closed but appears to be similar to the new topic proposed by 3DSOC in Message 1

I'm not inclined towards cleaning up a badly trashed topic.
AdminPD has rejected the proposed new topic as being too general. I'm inclined to try to get that PNT tightened up some, and then promote it as a fresh start on the "God created young with an appearance of old age" theme.
