I came across this youtube user, Evid3nc3, recently and I find it truly interesting and enlightening to get a overview of how a former Christian thought about his believe and how he in the end came to believe that God of the bible is not true.
Why I am no longer a Christian — Deconversion is an ongoing serial that explain the process from belief to non-belief. I believe his serial can both be insightful for both believers and non-believers since he explains very carefully and in an inspiring manner, how it is to be like a Christian and what he was up against. I especially believe this might provide insight to non-believers how to act towards believers. After all, I think non-believers seem to be a little rough towards believers.
I will recommend all to watch at least some of his videos.
He is quite an intelligent guy; on his youtube account he writes this about his educational background:
quote:
PhD candidate in Intelligent Systems (a sub-discipline of Computer Science); my focus is on evidence-justified beliefs and their argumentation as a means of conflict resolution both in computational and human systems.

I watched it all and found it very interesting, obviously these kind of testimonies are very intriguing from my POV as a christian.

Excellent Set of Videos
Hi hotjer,
I've seen Evid3nc3's videos before and I find them fascinating. For a start, they are very well put together. The art direction is great and the voice-over is a cut above some of the wooden narration we normally find on Youtube.
As an atheist, I find these interesting because they offer an insight into religious thought, as viewed from the inside. One thing that especially interested me was what Chris had to say about his personal experience of the Holy Spirit. This seems to be a common theme in Christian apologetics and it's one that I've often heard being brought up by believers. Evid3nc3 seems very keen to convince other Christians that really was a real Christian, that his experience of the divine was every bit as real and powerful as theirs. Nonetheless, he still has to deal with "You-were-never-a-real-Christian" accusations on his comments page. The gradual realisation that this Holy Spirit experience was simply a simulacrum is, I think, a key insight and one that Christians would do well to consider.
Another thing that jumps out at me is just how difficult this process was for Chris. His inner battle between faith and logic seems to have been very painful for him, mostly because he simply had too much intellectual curiosity and honesty to lead an unexamined life. Every day, millions of theists must be going through this struggle, facing the glaring flaws in a philosophy that has been presented to them as being all-encompassing and all-important. All that angst; over what? A fantasy. It's a shame.

Re: Excellent Set of Videos
I too found it very interesting what Chris had to say about his personal experience of the Holy Spirit. He was only able to go this path because he was a very intelligent logic thinking guy, who wanted to know the truth - and for a long time he really thought his personal relation with God must be truth since he experienced it, but yes - the explanation of God as a simulacrum seems logic and very likely to a person with that much logical thinking. It surprise med that his faith in God had so much control over his logic despite what he did encounter. I especially found the 2.6 video interesting and the point about Occam's Razor - I have never thought about that process that much. So beside from learning how believers think the videos were also very educational regarding loigcal thinking. I am really glad I stumpled upon these videos.
