Hyroglyphx, your post, short as it is, is so wrong in so many fronts, I have trouble finding a place to start.

You like reviewing a movie before you even saw it? Applied to our culture, it's called prejudice.
The spouse and I saw it. We loved. It's not your typical apocalypic movie with an American white man saving the day.
What was that one at the turn of the century, Y2K?
I'm sick and tired of people using the Y2K bug to compare to something like the 2012 hysteria. There were REAL concerns about disruptions in our networks. Everyone spent a ton of money to fix the problem before it became a problem.
It's like crashing your car while having seat belt on and going at 60 mph and then proclaim the seat belt "myth" because obviously nothing happened to you. Never mind the fact that your seat belt saved your life, you're one of those that would go around using the fact that you're still alive as proof that seat belts doesn't work. What did you think saved your life? The easter bunny?
Y2K was not a doomsday concern. But it was a concern nonetheless. Only dumbasses thought computer glitches would cause the world to end.
Added by edit.
And some of us actually know the real reason why the world is going to end on 2012. That's when Sarah Palin gets elected into the white house and begin her 20 year reign of terror. I'd imagine everyone with an iq of more than 40 will be shot on sight.
Edited by Taz, : No reason given.

And I would say the same about those who accept the 2012 crap.

No, there's a difference. Y2K was a real concern. The company my brother worked for had all their I.T.s working overnight. And even then, their system had some glitches due to the bug.
On the other hand, there is absolutely no reason whatsoever about 2012 to cause for concern. Might as well say 2060 will be the real end of the world date.

There's this thing called a "trailer." The people who make them try to put the best spin on their movie in order to entice you to see it. Often, though, it winds up crashing and burning.
And indeed, it was a "way overdone apocalyptic script." Though, like a lot of movies these days, science has replaced magic.

Thank you for your submission to Science. Your paper was reviewed by a jury of seventh graders so that they could look for balance and to allow them to make up their own minds. We are sorry to say that they found your paper "bogus," specifically describing the section on the laboratory work "boring." We regret that we will be unable to publish your work at this time.

No, there's a difference. Y2K was a real concern.
I wasn't saying there was no legitimate concern, I was saying that it was not a doomsday point. There was no way Y2K was going to end the earth any more than a misunderstood ending of a Mayan calender is going to end the world in 2012.
