Re: link problem
Yeah, I experienced this yesterday. I used a mid code. It looked fine in preview. When submitted, it displayed as an empty message link, just as Ned's has. I reloaded the page and it still didn't work. I edited the post to add a comment about it, submitted it and suddenly the link worked. I then re-edited the message to remove the comments, leaving the message content essentially the same as it was the first time, submitted it and it worked fine.
Weird.
At the time I thought it was perhaps a problem with the noparse code, which I was using, but that doesn't explain Ned's problem.
The message is here; EvC Forum: Fine tuning/ programming

Re: "Thread Name Not Available" showing up at promoted PNT's
Problem was due to obscure database table locking rules, fixed now.

What seems to be a very old quirk
evcforum.net forums are grouped into "Board Administration", "Science Forums", "Social and Religious Issues", "Side Orders", "Archives", and "Retired Forums".
I have just noticed that at the individual topic pages, the hierarchy is ALWAYS listed as EvC Forum -> All Forums -> Science Forums -> "forum" -> "topic", regardless of what forum group the topic is actually in.
I also note (as I am creating this message) that the hierarchy is listed correctly ("Board Administration" and not "Science Forums").
I'll bet that this quirk goes back many years.

Slight oddity
I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this before.
If I try and propose a new topic in a forum other than 'Proposed New Topics', say 'Biological Evolution', I get the message ...
You may not open a new topic in this forum. New topics for most forums must be proposed in the Biological Evolution forum.
The link takes me to the 'Proposed New Topics' forum but the text refers to whatever forum I was in when I clicked the 'New Topic' button.

Minor Update Just Installed: List dBCode
I've just installed a minor update fixing a couple minor bugs.
More significantly, it also adds useful functionality to the [list] dBCode. See the documentation at List dBCode for details, here's a list of the new features:
  1. The bullet character can now be a square or a circle outline:
    [list=circle]
    [list=square]
  2. Lists can now use Roman numerals:
[list=1,r] (lower case Roman numerals starting at i)
[list=5,R] (upper case Roman numerals starting at V)
  3. Lists can specify the number for each item:
    [*=5] (restart numbering at 5)

This should be fixed, please let me know if not.
Thanks for reporting this - I need more people like you and Moose and few others who will take the time to report minor issues, but I need to find and fix these things to have a quality product.

Three cheers for Percy!
Percy's new feature is:
  • nice
  • neat
  • nifty
It's also:
  • wonderful
  • way cool
  • wicked
Etiam est:
  1. iucundus
  2. mundus
  3. dolosus
Et:
  1. prodigiosus
  2. magnus frigus
  3. pravus
The only thing I'd like changed about the Latinate lists is the alignment of the numerals, like this:
I. First
   II. Second
   III. Third

I wish this were as easy as it might seem. There don't seem to be any CSS properties for positioning the item value. Imagine how your mechanic might react when you ask him to move the steering wheel from the left to the right side of your car.
Maybe someone out there has some ideas for how to at least somewhat easily do this.
In case someone might find it useful, let me add that this would be relatively easy to do:
I. First
II. Second
III. Third

Shhh... think of the Brits seeing this.
I have no idea how you do these things, Percy, but if it's not all CSS tinkering, how about mirroring the numerals, then pasting the required number of spaces in front of them, and then mirroring the resulting strings again? Would that be possible?

Yep, it's all "CSS tinkering."
The browser has complete control over list marker alignment. I could create my own lists from scratch and provide better control for users, but it would be a much bigger effort.
One capability I made no provision for was custom images in place of the disc, circle and square for unordered lists, but this probably wouldn't be hard to do.

The browser has complete control over list marker alignment.
How do you feed it the Roman numerals? Or does the browser create them itself? If it doesn't, can't you feed it strings you've prepared yourself?

The browser does all the rendering. All I do is specify the starting value and whether it's numeric, alphabetic (upper or lower case), or Roman numerals (upper or lower case). The CSS specification includes other alphabet options, and Greek and Hebrew seem to work in the Chrome browser, so just for grins I've added those. Click peek to see how it's done:
  1. One.
  2. Two.
  3. Three.
  1. One.
  2. Two.
  3. Three.
