i think some bible folk are too proud to say 'i dont know' and will run with something even if they are incorrect. In fact there have more then 1 groups of hittites identified but not identified with the group mentioned in the bible
this does not mean that they never existed though. Belshazzar and Potifer were also said to never have existed, but eventually archeology found secular evidence for them... perhaps they will eventually find the biblical hitites also

While I might seem farfetched sometimes I am clear on one point!
Folklore or FACT???
It's Folklore. It's like reading the Newspaper. Most of these facts were not written down immediately when they happened but were talked about for years afterwards and the facts get skewed.
Which is where we get to the point. History is written by the victors of war not the losers.
If the Jews wrote that war than it probably happened. If they won it then they probably got to tell people whatever they wanted about the Hittites. The Old Testament until the Time Of Moses wasn't even written down. So the first five books of the Bible come into being immediately by the hand of one man.
Though I must say Jews are notoriously meticulous about the truth in there Old Testament. To find anything after the Torah written that isn't historical fact I would have to disagree with.
This is a society when it writes the word LORD as YHWE it breaks it's quill, gets a new one, writes the word, BREAKS THAT QUILL, and then grabs a third to continue.
Think of how much respect they have for the truth.
Yet anything that happened before Moses is obviously folklore as it was passed down from one generation to the next and has to be taken with the proverbial grain of salt.
Yet there is a grain of truth in every single legend without fail.

Don't know much about all this bible stuff, I do know one thing though. This:

Is not true, the first five books were almost certainly written by a bunch of different authors.

I hunt for the truth

The Jews didn't have writing until they left Egypt.
And it was very clear to the Levites to tell the truth in the books of the Bible to the best of their ability.
Once again NOONE was standing there with Adam and Eve to see their so-called fall into sin. Just the grain of truth I get out of that legend is that we started with one man and one woman who had plenty of children.
I would say any Bible myths would have to come in the New Testament. When a greedy Church power (possibly a corrupt pope and this isn't meant as disrespect to Catholics they are fellow Church brethren and love Jesus as much as the rest of us). Not the miracles. I have seen miracles myself in church before.
A woman I personally knew got up out of ten years paraplegic in a wheelchair and seeing as I see her around churches sometimes has stayed out of that wheelchair.
I'm just saying I don't put it past a corrupt minister to change the Words of Christ or His Disciples.
Especially condemning gays. I see a lot of gays on this website talking about evolution so I guess here at Bible myth I will state my opinion.
If you have a life committment to someone that you made in front of God regardless of sex it is sin to break that committment. People should honor their vows even from a humanist standpoint for self-esteem and the goal system.
So what I'm saying is this. The Bible is rather clear about four things.
Idolatery, murder, adultery, and slander are four things a true Christan should pracitce.
Yet we see the Bible altered in that verse to not include slander.
Why would they not so liars aren't condemned as well.
But at least we have love and forgiveness.
And one church tradition I stand by is that Jesus has the keys to heaven, earth, and hell.
And the superstring theory gives credit that the Bible is telling the truth there are other dimensions of heaven, earth, and hell.
The superstring theory states that in a different universe the laws of physics are different based on e=mc squared derivatives.
Which gives rise to what physics are like in these other dimensions.
I did some thinking on it and anyone who would like to join me to debate this and other evolution creation and physics or biology topics can join me in the chat room next Sunday (12/6/08) at 2PM. Any creation or evolution topic is viable that you bring up and I just ask one rule.
"NO THREATS OR INSULTS!"
This should be a respectful discussion and we should look at other's viewpoints with the respect that
"Hey that other guy might just be right."
And the respect of not calling people liars. Most people interested in this topic are inheritently interested in just plain finding out the Truth the Whole Truth and Nothing but the Truth.

I am a very conservative Christian in Seminary and I have never heard anything about what you are talking about. Maybe this was a major apologetic in the 80's or something, but modern Christian apologetics has nothing to say about this issue. This is the first time I have heard of such a find so I can't say if your information is accurate or not.

I am a very conservative Christian in Seminary
There’s another life wasted.
and I have never heard anything about what you are talking about.
I provided ten links in post number 6, did you not read them?
The link from apologetics press is copyrighted to 2002 so maybe you need to research the topic a bit more.
To be fair, I’d say all of the links probably lead to conservative fundy Xian websites because we know that this type of Xian has no problems with lying to people. In fact they need to lie because their faith is so ridiculous.
Maybe this was a major apologetic in the 80's or something, but modern Christian apologetics has nothing to say about this issue.
Another liar for God, or do you genuinely have no idea about the topic?
This is the first time I have heard of such a find so I can't say if your information is accurate or not.
Well read the links in post 6 and get familiar with the lies that are being spread all over the Internet by lying xians, it is only one of many.
So, why are you in the seminary:
Head trauma
Ex-alcoholic
Ex- Drug addict
Ex- Gambler
Ex- wife-beater
Or
My life was at an all time low, I had no one to turn to.
Maybe even all of the above?

Belshazzar and Potifer were also said to never have existed, but eventually archeology found secular evidence for them.
Could you supply some of this 'secular' evidence that archaeology has found for Belshazzar and Potifer (Potiohar), or is this another Peg fantasy?

There used to be a comedian who presented his ideas for a better world, and one of them was to arm everyone on the highway with little rubber dart guns. When a state trooper sees someone driving down the highway with a bunch of darts all over his car he pulls him over for being an idiot.
