First, I'd like to advertise the SkepticWiki, a general resource for skeptics.
Sections of interest to EvC members include a catalog of Creationist Arguments, the Biology section, a textbook on Genetics, and the sections on Biblical Textual Issues and Biblical Errors
---
Second, I've just been put i/c of registering new contributors, and have decided to actively solicit them as opposed to the previous policy of sitting around waiting for people to notice that it exists. So please join up and contribute.
This is well worth doing, because the SkepticWiki, being a large, well-interlinked, and well-trafficked site, is very google-friendly. If you try googling for such EvC topics as beneficial mutations or archaeopteryx hoax or why are there still monkeys or bananas the atheist's worst nightmare, you should find that the SW is on the first google page. For one or two subjects it's even the top google hit (I can't tell you which ones, because for some reason the page rankings seem to vary slightly depending on whether you're using standard google or google uk). And this is without an active campaign to publicize the SkepticWiki, something which we now intend to change.
So if you contribute, your articles will be read, much more so than if you just put them on your own private site, or if you cast your pearls of wisdom before the creationist swine here on EvC.
You can get an account by emailing me at dradequate@googlemail.com , stating your preferred username. I shall also be happy to give technical support to anyone not familiar with the wiki format.
---
Thirdly, one of our contributors has just set up a Facebook site for SkepticWiki, here. We already have seven "fans" since yesterday ... oh, wait, we've added another two since I started writing this post. Now, I don't know much about Facebook, not being Down With The Kids, but I imagine that becoming a "fan" means that your Facebook site links to the SkepticWiki Facebook site, thus providing it with publicity, so please do so.
Thank you.

At least two account requests from EvC ... possibly more if I failed to recognize people's real names.
Thanks, people ... keep 'em coming.

I went through the articles the other day and found that 160 of them --- just over a quarter --- were in the top 10 google hits for their subject.
I conclude --- if you want your hard work to be seen --- if you are tired of arguing with one idiot at a time --- sign up and write for the SkepticWiki.

I'm being a bit of a duffer about creating an account.
When I try I just get asked to log in!

We were plagued by "bots" trying to spam us, so to get an account, you now have to email me at dradequate@googlemail.com
There must be a better way to avoid spambots, since Wikipedia, for example, doesn't require registration. But our admins don't know how they do it, so for the time being, just email me.
Thank you for supporting the SkepticWiki.

Could I add --- if anyone wants to email me for an account, could you please tell me what username you'd like to register under.
Most of the registration requests I get don't say, and I then I email them back to ask them, and then it turns out that they want to be known by a name that appears nowhere in the email that they first sent me.
I'll register y'all under any name that's not gratuitously obscene --- but you have to tell me what it is.
Thanks.
