Re: A post worthy of inclusion here
Actually, I'd rather think the following deserves commendation:
quote:
To: Coyoteman
Whenever a Darwinian materialist (that’s you) argues radiocarbon dating (or any scientistic theories, for that matter)he is placing the cart before the horse.
Before he can argue scientistic theory, he must establish before all else exactly how it is that a soulless meat machine at the mercy of natural forces whose brain is mysteriously implanted with ”thought’ by an impersonal intelligence hovering somewhere in the unseen realm knows anything? After all, materialism, like it’s flip-side pantheism, posits that man is nothing more than a tiny, insubstantial part of Nature, variously called Dialectical Matter (Marx’s divinized Matter Entity), Elan Vital, the Absolute, Overmind, the Force, etc.
Lacking soul, mind, conscience, reason, and free will, the meat machine is fully caused and determined by unseen forces of Nature. Hence it is merely a puppet dancing to the tune of unseen forces. Whatever words come out of its mouth were put there by Something Else. As there is no ”you,’ it is this Something Else which speaks of radiocarbon testing.
Coyoteman is merely a body tagged with the name Coyoteman.

Commendation for (1) confusing science and philosophical bullshit (this is why sometimes I don't like philosophical bullshitters) and (2) trying to sound smart by using big words where unnecessary. The latter we usually find in a college english or philosophy paper. It just shows immaturity.
Added by edit.
Thanks a lot for planting the idea into my head. I had to go see what's new on Fundies say the darnest things.

The reason they lie when promoting their fag lifestyle is because they know that as fags, no one gives them a dime's worth of respect. Who in their right mind would respect two anal-copulating men? God in the Holy Bible says they who do that must be put on death-row. NAMBLA is the name of the big gay pedophile club. Look it up online if you don't believe it. And NAMBLA admits its gay.

Original sin happens because a man and a woman have sexual intercourse and this is not cleanly because lots of fluids are secreted, and uncleanlyness is a sin. On top of that, when you are born, you come out of a vagina with a lot of goo all over you and that too is unclean and is a sin. So double sin really. But the Baptism will wash the sins of birth away.

Re: Look to the heavens... Now!!!
I saw Venus, Luna and something else (Mars?) low in the sky to the South West on my way home from work a few weeks ago.
Really impressive: it was a quarter moon with Venus and (maybe Mars) hanging below it (both within a relative Luna diameter of the Moon).
Venus looked massive.

Re: Look to the heavens... Now!!!
That's the conjunction I was refering to in message 11 - it was Jupiter, not Mars. It was a very major conjunction, and I was completely oblivious to it until I saw it myself! It made waves all over the world, and interestingly coinicided with the death of the guru, Adi Da Samraj There's some pictures on Wiki

Re: Look to the heavens... Now!!!
Hey cavediver,
I got to see it!
Last night there was a nice big bright-as-fuck star about an inch or two away from the moon.
It was really cool!

Re: Look to the heavens... Now!!!
In case anyone was concerned, I should point out that
nice big bright-as-fuck star
is the globally accepted astrophysical term for what laymen call "Venus".
about an inch or two away from the moon
And we do indeed now use inches as the fundemental units of angular separation.
It was really cool!
Told ya

Re: Look to the heavens... Now!!!
We just looked. Venus next to the Moon and then Jupiter and Mercury side by side just above the horizon. Absolutely amazing. I thought Mercury was Mars until my wife showed me a picture from the web. I've never seen it so bright.
It's good we learned to look up and wonder.

Re: Look to the heavens... Now!!!
Ah Bluescat, you really missed out man. It was amazing seeing the Moon, Venus, Mercury and Jupiter all in your field of vision. With all those planets visible, it was really easy to see where everything lined up along the solar plane. Me and my friends drug out the 16" telescope for the veiwing. Worth every second of it.

Was up visiting friends and we went for a walk in the evening to get a last look at the houses who had lights up. We took their four-year-old and saw the bright planet in the sky. "So, what's that planet?" I was asked. Partly because of having a small child to show off to and partly because my brain really does work this way, the words coming out of my mouth were as follows:
"Well, it isn't Mars because it isn't red. It isn't Jupiter because it isn't yellow. It isn't Saturn because it isn't deeper yellow. It isn't Uranus because my eyes aren't that good to see it and Uranus never gets that bright. It isn't Mercury because it's too far from the sun. Therefore, it must be Venus."
Yes...I'm unable to simply say, "That's Venus." No, I have to go through all the things that it is not and by process of elimination, figure out what it is.
