Way to many themes for 1 topic
This topic was started 3/7/07.
Another version had been started as a one-on-one"Great Debate" on 5/12/07. When that "Great Debate" fizzled out Admin moved it to the "Geology and the Great Flood" forum (here) and opened the debate to all.
I closed down that topic on 4/19/08 at message 95 because it had way too many themes. My closing message:

Forum Rules.
Rule 3:
quote:
When introducing a new topic, please keep the message narrowly focused. Do not include more than a few points.
This topic started as a 2 member "Great Debate". As such I find the exception to rule 3 to be acceptable. But now that the topic is open to all, it is no longer acceptable.
At no sooner than 15 minutes from now, I am going to close this topic. I someone wants to debate a much more restricted number of those 100 categories, they should propose a new topic.

I'd like to echo Adminnemooseus's request that people propose more narrowly focused topics over at [forum=-25]. There seems to be interest in discussing at least a couple of the items from the list.
Oddly enough, that now closed topic was started after this still open topic.
But for the same reasons, this topic also needs to be closed down. Please follow the suggestions contained in the above quotes.
Closing down in about 15 minutes.

It really helps moderators figure out if a topic is disintegrating because of general misbehavior versus someone in particular if the originally non-misbehaving members kept it that way. When everyone is prickly and argumentative and off-topic and personal then it's just too difficult to tell. We have neither infinite time to untie the Gordian knot, nor the wisdom of Solomon.
There used to be a comedian who presented his ideas for a better world, and one of them was to arm everyone on the highway with little rubber dart guns. Every time you see a driver doing something stupid, you fire a little dart at his car. When a state trooper sees someone driving down the highway with a bunch of darts all over his car he pulls him over for being an idiot.
Please make it easy to tell you apart from the idiots. Source
