Jaderis hits the nail right on the head with this one, giving the topic a much needed grounding in reality.

The cries of socialism from the conservatives are really rather amusing because Obama and pretty much every other Democrat in any office in America are so far to the right that they would be called conservatives in most other Western countries

Absolutely. We Europeans are often perplexed by the spectacle of US commentators accusing candidates of "socialism", as though that were a) within a million miles of the truth, and b) tantamount to paedophilia or something.

Kudos to Jaderis for pointing out what ought to be obvious to all.
