Make up your mind. First you were implying that he is an Islamic militant mole, and now you have him as a leftist/socialist afrocentric extremist. But on your new charge...
1) Obama is hardly an extreme leftist/socialist nor aligned with such. I can say this with pretty strong confidence as if he was, then he'd be more aligned with my own outlook on several issues. I get that he's slightly left of center, but that isn't close to an extreme left. Hard leftists are likely to be in favor of Clinton, who has a much more aggressive healthcare plan. If you have some evidence for this claim, please submit some. 2) What is an Afrocentrist, and how does Obama fit into that picture? Indeed how does his church come into any sort of comparison with the KKK and white supremacist organizations? The key feature for the orgs you just mentioned is that they argue for the superiority of one race over another. Nowhere have I seen Wright saying anything like that. Is he divisive? Yes. Is he playing the race card (which is opportunism)? Yes. Is he saying blacks are superior to whites and should be accorded some privileges of some kind? No. Is he even suggesting racial separation? No. You know Jesus hung out with riffraff of his age. He was also demonized using guilt by association. What's wrong with this picture of a Xian slamming someone based solely on that? I'm going to laugh if all of your predictions of the second coming turn out to be true, but Jesus turns out to be Obama. h "Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing." - Robert E. My point was that socialists agree with the Wright contention that the rich are the source of America's problems. Actually, socialists don't believe the rich are the source of America's problems. The problems are inherent in an economic system where the few own the means and products produced by the majority. "The rich" are simply folks who have an understandable self-interest in maintaining the a system that is the source of their wealth and power. Now back to our regularly scheduled program. There is a tragic flaw in our precious Constitution, and I don't know what can be done to fix it. This is it: Only nut cases want to be president. -- Kurt Vonnegut

Buzsaw, please look up terms before using them. Socialists do not see the rich as the problem. They often see the rich as people who have exploited the problem of the system to get rich.
And if you paid any attention to the US government in the past 8 years, you'd know that the so called "Conservative" Republicans favor government solutions to most problems.

I haven't posted here in a long time.....
I've never donated to a campaign before or volunteered.... but I have done so far Obama (heck I was a republican back in 2000.. I know I know.. stupid stupid stupid). IMO, Obama is the best canidate to come along with a serious chance of winning in decades (although I do think Gore would have been an excellent president, better than clinton, but he's not that great of a politician) I just have to post and say how excited I am again about he future of our country. I think Obama can and will win and will change this country forever. The new generation is rising and we are going to take back our country

Chalmers, long time no see.
I agree with you that I hope Obama wins, although, unlike you, I haven't donated or volunteered for his campaign. I'm still a bit apathetic towards voting, and more of an amateur, armchair political enthusiast. I haven't looked too in-depth on his issues, but one in particular is an irritating thorn in my side. It regards his energy policy, and more specifically, "low-emissions coal", or "clean burning coal". The Office of Barack and Michelle Obama He claims he will invest $150 billion in "clean energy", which includes solar, wind, and clean coal, to name a few. But just how much of this $150 billion will go towards each form of energy? How much money, if any, has the coal industry provided towards the Obama campaign? Are fossil fuels not simply something we must rid ourselves of but to use in moderation with renewable, sustainable energy sources? Clean coal - Coal pollution mitigation - Wikipedia- to my limited understanding, smells of something that is still very experimental and tentative, with several issues at the forefrunt: carbon sequestration, coal extraction, coal transportation, etc. AbE: The U.S. actually has the largest coal reserves of any other nation. With this in mind, amalgamated with the power of the coal lobby, it seems almost certain that coal will be a part of our energy policy. Coal - Wikipedia Just how large a share coal will hold in our energy consumption remains to be seen. I hope it is severely limited. Edited by Infixion, : No reason given.

Just what the title says: America now has a chance to undo some of the damage done by the Bush Administration.
But expectations are high for Obama, I really hope he's up to it.

Americans made the right choice. I think that the next four years will be as challenging as any in our history, and I believe that we as a nation will continue to have tough economic times ahead, as well as many moral challenges that also involve finances.

Once Bush and his cronies are finally out of office, is there any chance of their being prosecuted for crimes against humanity (torture etc)?
I expect there are lots of people (especially outside the USA) who think that would be proper.

Phat writes: Here in Colorado, voters defeated the Right To Work amendment that would have decimated union wages. I supported defeating that measure, and I think that we have a very pro-labor president. I think this was a bad move. I don't understand why people think that unskilled labour should deserve anything more that 2x minimum wage at a maximum (even after 40+ years of loyal service). Current unskilled auto-union workers can make so much money it's laughable why anyone would consider going to post-secondary school. Unless, perhaps the union wages you're talking about were for skilled labour or they are already rather low. I'm just talking about general auto-unions. Just a personal pet-peeve of mine, I'm not looking for an arguement. In presidential news, I'm glad Obama won. I think it was the better choice, but that is still yet to be seen. As with most things, only time will tell, I suppose.
