Re: All God Needs To Do...
Since you believe the Bible is a bunch of stories by a bunch of ignorant people and most of it is myth anyway how do you know this is not just another embellished story to scare people into doing good cause if they don't they go with the goats into the lake of fire?
Ah yes, the classic tactic of the Biblical Christian; instead of discussing the topic misrepresent your opponents position.
An example of the honor of Biblical Christianity?
I answered that in some detail in the Who can be saved? A Christian perspective.
However I was not responding to whether or not the story was an actual quotation but rather the identity of the Goats.

Just don't expect my boss to pay your claim when you are not willing to pay the premium.
You're still missing the point. It's not about "insurance" at all.
Your boss started the fire. He'd be facing criminal charges if he wan't the police department too.
Ethically, honorably, he's responsible for any damages caused by the fire, even if we don't have the power to collect. And instead of recognizing your boss' misconduct and expecting him to behave in an honourable way, you're making excuses for him.
No honour among thieves, I guess.
(Bear in mind that I don't believe for one second your claim that your boss started the fire or that I'm in any danger from the fire. If there was a fire threatening me, I believe your boss would do the honourable thing and help me out, without expecting anything in return.)

it's great to say "i'm going to live righteously". but it's not going to happen. you can try. you can fight injustice. you can give to charity. you can do all kinds of stuff. but, somewhere in there, you're gonna be mean to someone or fail to give when you should have, or scream at someone, or cheat on your wife, or something. it's going to happen.
I think you described it perfectly.
Yes, you certainly can try. And that's exactly what we should do.
i think the biggest point of at least these big 3 is that god wants to know you despite your failings.
I think that's a good point. One that's full of a loving God showing that He cares. As long as this point has nothing to do with salvation
and, no, i don't think that forgiveness is exclusive. i'm apparently a terrible christian. i don't think my club has a membership card.
I have to be honest. I've never really understood that inclusive/exclusive stuff. I can't seem to wrap my head around it. And I don't know enough about christianity to say if you're terrible at it or not. But from what I can tell, you're doing just fine as a person.

it's about people being self-righteous and showy and generally asshole-ish. more "god loves me and he doesn't love you and that makes me awesome" shit. but considering the bible says that christians are predestined and chosen and all are undeserving and they did nothing to warrant being chosen, that has no real basis. people are just jerks.
of course, the whole predestination thing is not universally believed, even though it's in there specifically. and some people think that's what makes people think they're special, that reading really doesn't fly with calvinism. you're dirt and god is awesome and you should work to show that he didn't waste his time on you.
i love calvinism.

Re: Honour is about why, not what
Hi Stile,
Stile writes:
...it seems like you are following these commandments because you want to remain in His Estate.
Many people have this idea that you have to do some good deed or deeds to keep yourself saved. That would apply only if you had to do some good deed or deeds to be saved. But if all you have to do is accept the pardon offered by God through His Son and He gives you eternal life??? How long is Eternal?
I do nothing but accept God's offer to receive eternal life. I do nothing to keep it because it is eternal.
I do things because I choose to do them. I don't do some things because I choose not to do them that is life. Everything you do is a choice.
Stile writes:
But I cannot apply for it, the application shows dishonour to God, it turns me into a nagging inconvenience, and it's demeaning to the power of the gift.
But you have already filled out the application and it has been approved.
Stile writes:
I do not want to buy it, I know I can't afford it.
I do not want to earn it, I know I'm not worthy of it.
I would certainly accept it if it was granted to me.
If this is truly the decision you have come to that you put in these three lines, I now call you Brother Stile.
Have fun,

"John 5:39 (KJS) Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me."

Re: Good is greater than God
God is my Creator, is he not?
God is supposed to unconditionally love his entire Creation, correct?
How can he simultaneously love and subject any part of His Creation to unending torment and suffering?
It reminds me of the abusice husband who tells his wife, "I love you, and you have to love me and do what I tell you or else I'm going to beat the crap out of you. I beat you because I love you."
If someone I loved disowned me, hated me, or even simply acted as if I didn't exist, I would be sad, but I would never wish to torture them or make them suffer horrible pain.
Only a sociopath can torture people and not be affected.

You?
nator, I wish I had the perfect answer to this question but I don't.
I am a seeker of the truth whether you believe it or not. I studied Greek and Hebrew the original ones the early scriptures were in. I came to some conclusions. I examined the Bible and I found it to be truthful enough for me. I find no contradictions in it even though there are those here that say it is full of them. I find many prophesies in the Bible that has been fulfilled. I find facts in the Bible that has been confirmed by Science. So I believe the Bible.
Do I think it is perfect. No Nothing is perfect when man has had his hand in it.
So I find a lot of rules in the Bible that are good. In fact if the 10 commandments which I am not under were practiced by everybody today we would have no jails, no poverty and no problems. Everything would be great.
Bottom line I have to choose how I am going to live my life and I can modify it along the way. So yes I have to decide for myself just like you have to decide for yourself.
Then I have to live with the results of those decisions.
Have fun,

"John 5:39 (KJS) Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me."

Re: Good is greater than God
Hi nator,
God is my Creator, is he not?
No He is not. Your mother and father had sex and you are the result of that union. Unless they used artifical insemination.
God is supposed to unconditionally love his entire Creation, correct?
He does. Why do you think He allow His Son to suffer as He did?
How can he simultaneously love and subject any part of His Creation to unending torment and suffering?
The only part of God's creation that He is responsible for being in the lake of fire is the devil and his angels.
They were created for a specific purpose and as GIA says they are doing a great job.
Have fun,

Except the Bible says that I got it right. If you like, we can have yet another thread on the Parable of the Sheep and Goats. You can present your best support for your assertions and I will once again show why the Goats are Jesus followers.

No, I wasn't jerking your chain. I was just pointing out that the God you describe is nothing but a petty criminal, an arsonist, a crooked cop, an extortionist, a con artist.
The real God (if there is one) couldn't be anything like what you imagine.

You are entitled to your opinion.

Of course the real GOD could be like that. However it would be something to despise and in a way to pity, certainly not something to be loved or worshiped. It is hard to reconcile the GOD that could create this universe we live in with such a psychotic and psychopathic entity but it is possible that ICANT's God suffered a stroke or other impairment.
