Especially not if he wishes to assist you. I do not like the idea of Cruise trying to back my own car over me.

I dunno. I only could listen for a couple of minutes, but that's because I found it boring.
But it didn't seem any worse than anyone else I've heard rambling on about his or her beliefs.

Few men and fewer women had the means or the desire to write a book on "How I failed to overcome my humble origins." -- Graham Robb

Re: Narcicism
So what? The practical outcome is the same, someone saying "my religion is the one with the answers".
But everyone thinks this irrespective of a religion or not. No one purposefully follows something they believe is wrong, rather, they follow it because they believe it is right.
Saying this is a trait only reserved for the religious is only begging the question.

“There is something which unites magic and applied science while separating both from the 'wisdom' of earlier ages. For the wise men of old the cardinal problem had been how to conform the soul to objective reality, and the solution had been knowledge, self-discipline, and virtue. For magic and applied science alike the problem is how to subdue reality to the wishes of men: the solution is a technique; and both, in the practice of this technique, are ready to do things hitherto regarded as disgusting and impious" -C.S. Lewis

A defense for what? What was I defending?
Its common sense, really. Since everyone follows some sort of lifestyle they believe leads to good things, everyone has these traits.

I'm just stunned at his ability to talk for 9 minutes without saying anything.
That was my impression as well.
He kept talking about Scientologists as people who "know", but never explained what they know. He kept mentioning how much people like him "do" to "help", but never explained what they do or what ill they were trying to alleviate.
The entire thing was utterly without content.

I know what I heard the first time I listened. To make sure, I listened again a second and third time. What stands out, to me, is that Tom Cruise says he has the means to fix the world. He has the means to fix you and me. He can effectively change people's lives and won't hesitate to put his own ethics into yours and mine. The leaders of the world want help, so they come to Tom, they depend on people who can help ...... He wishes the world were a different place, so he can go on vacation ..... hahahahaha, man you're either in or out .... this is the way it should be done (the scientology way)..... It's wild and woolly, it's a blast, it's fun .... The last thought is something I would not credit Hitler as saying, but then, you never know.
Tom Cruise has unleashed scientology onto one billion people on this planet, that's only the first wave he has unleased, stick around for more unleashings.

What stands out, to me, is that Tom Cruise says he has the means to fix the world. He has the means to fix you and me.
But isn't that the claim made by just about any religion?
Sure, scientology is a nutty cult that is out of touch with reality. But then, again, Young Earth Creationism is a nutty cult that is out of touch with reality.
Tom Cruise has unleashed scientology onto one billion people on this planet, that's only the first wave he has unleased, stick around for more unleashings.
I'm not understanding that part. Scientology existed before Tom Cruise was born, and it has way less than one billion followers.

Let's end the political smears

Re: Narcicism
But not everyone believes that theirs is the only correct lifestyle and that all other people should be converted to it or else.
Religions tend to make people think this way.
Well, there is this thing called the law of non-contradiction where two diametrically opposed viewpoints can't logically both be true.
The assumption invariably comes down to one of two things: Either people that recognize it are narrow-minded, or truth is a narrow path.

“There is something which unites magic and applied science while separating both from the 'wisdom' of earlier ages. For the wise men of old the cardinal problem had been how to conform the soul to objective reality, and the solution had been knowledge, self-discipline, and virtue. Truth isn't "a" path.
Even Tom Cruise knows some truth. He recognizes that it's important to do things, to make a difference in this life.
A lot of people who claim to know "the" truth don't understand that.

Just like all the other cults. Xianity, for example.
Pity, isn't it?
