Happy 2008 CE everybody
Until now, I have always used AD. But, as a result of what Buzsaw has posted, I now recognize that I should henceforth use CE.
In using a common system of dates, we follow a societal convention. Such conventions are required to facilitate communication. Until now, I had used AD as part of that convention. But it has now been made clear that some people will try to impose their own ideological committments on others by foolishly insisting that the use of AD is some sort of acknowledgement.
Hereinafter, it is CE (the Common Era), as far as I am concerned.

Re: Inadvertent Acknowledgement
Inadvertent means mistaken.
Dr. A is not mistaken.
He uses AD fully aware of its meaning.
You, on the other hand, inadvertently acknowledge Janus and Woden.
Unless, of course, you don't use the words January and Wednesday. Or March (aka Mars). Or any of the many other names that acknowledge ancient gods.

It's nothing new to me that the days of the week acknowledge paganism. I accept that fact. Some secularists and pagans try to deny the calendar's historical relevance to Jesus.

The immeasurable present eternally extends the infinite past and infinitely consumes the eternal future.

We secularists acknowledge and accept the pagan/xian origins of a lot of things.
There's a difference between acceptance and historical relevance, as you've just admitted.

Re: Inadvertent Acknowledgement
This catagorizes you as one of inadvertent ones who for one reason or another do not connect the acknowledgement relative to the common and universal usage of the term AD, i.e. year of our lord over the centuries.
Universal? Care to guess what year it is in Thailand according to the Buddhist calendar? What about the Jewish calendar? In both case, I can tell you the answer is not 2008.

"Debate is an art form. It is about the winning of arguments. It is not about the discovery of truth. There are certain rules and procedures to debate that really have nothing to do with establishing fact ” which creationists have mastered. Some of those rules are: never say anything positive about your own position because it can be attacked, but chip away at what appear to be the weaknesses in your opponent's position. They are good at that. I don't think I could beat the creationists at debate. I can tie them. But in courtrooms they are terrible, because in courtrooms you cannot give speeches. In a courtroom you have to answer direct questions about the positive status of your belief. We destroyed them in Arkansas. On the second day of the two-week trial we had our victory party!"

Re: Correction Acknowledged
My point that the entire world has essentially been acknowledging Jesus by the usage of it is factual, the last country to enact it being Portugal about 600 years ago.
Ah, Buz, you do no it is the last few days of the year 1428 don't you?
And early in the year 5768.
And the year 4704 (year of the Fire Pig).
and the end of 2550.
The western Calendar is widely used because it is efficient for business, not for any other reason. It is COMMERCE not Jesus that drove it.

Immigration has been a problem Since 1607!

This is a lie.
You know that this is a lie.
You are a liar.
I don't see what more I can say. What you claimed is not true and you know that it is not true. You must know this. You are a liar.
Stop it.

besides the blatant flasity of this statement, i think it's important to note that the stories about jesus may have some relevance to the history of our calendar, but i sincerely doubt that our calendar has any relevance to jesus.
