Your reason for accepting evolution

Thread moved here from the Proposed New Topics forum.

Yes, he's still around. He originally raised these issues in the What's the problem with teaching ID? thread and was encouraged to propose a new thread, which is this one. He later resumed posting about evolution in the ID thread again, and I've twice encouraged him to take such issues here. If he keeps it up I'll remove his permissions in the [forum=-4] forum, and that should solve the problem.

When I promoted this thread I viewed it as an opportunity for a creationist to gather evolutionist responses about why they accepted evolution. I never intended that this thread take up debate about the validity of the reasons provided. Anyone wishing to debate the validity or lack thereof of any the reasons for accepting evolution should propose a new thread.

This thread is for people to enumerate their reasons for accepting evolution. Explaining and clarifying these reasons is within the scope of this thread, but debating their validity or lack thereof would cause this thread to fragment into discussions of a dozen different aspects of evolution. Discussing dating methods and deposition and fossils and so forth all in the same thread would be very confusing, which is why we like to keep threads focused on a single topic, or at least a small set of related topics.If you'd like to debate any of the reasons provided in this thread, simply go to the [forum=-25] forum and propose a new thread.As an aside, I was a little concerned when I promoted this thread, as obviously the reasons for accepting evolution would likely be very diverse, but I hoped that discussion would be limited to just understanding the reasons. In retrospect that doesn't seem reasonable, because it is the reasons' validity that attracts the most attention.I'm going to close this thread for a few hours so that members have an opportunity to see this message. If the next time this thread opens the topic drifts again, I think we'll just close it permanently and ask members to propose new threads.
