No, that's how you directly calculate the integral. Integration is essentially the sum of inscribed polygons as the width of the polygon goes to zero.
Hahaha. I know. That's the point. Instead of integrating it directly, the engineer uses his ruler to do so. Engineers do use his ruler a lot, you know.
I'm thinking that the engineer simply looks it up in the CRC. Upon finding that it isn't in there, he tells his manager that it isn't going to work.
This works, too.

Disclaimer:
Occasionally, owing to the deficiency of the English language, I have used he/him/his meaning he or she/him or her/his or her in order to avoid awkwardness of style.
He, him, and his are not intended as exclusively masculine pronouns. They may refer to either sex or to both sexes!

Has anybody seen the new commericals for "Veramyst"? It's a new prescription allergy medication from Glaxo-Smith-Kline. And yet, there's an interesting disclaimer:
The way VERAMYST works is not fully understood.
Um, and you want me to spray that up my nose? Do you think I'm stupid?
How did this get past the FDA?

Thank you for your submission to Science. Your paper was reviewed by a jury of seventh graders so that they could look for balance and to allow them to make up their own minds. We are sorry to say that they found your paper "bogus," specifically describing the section on the laboratory work "boring." We regret that we will be unable to publish your work at this time.

Not being fully understood isn't a problem to get FDA approval. It is uses steroids to reduce the inflammation that results from allergies, so it is understood, just not fully.
quote:
Veramyst is an intranasal corticosteroid (INS) that works throughout the allergy process to block an entire range of the chemicals in the body that are involved in inflammation that may lead to nasal allergy symptoms. However, the precise mechanism through which Veramyst affects allergy symptoms is not known.
Certainly an ominous disclaimer, though. Hardly inspires confidence

Yes, but no other medication I have seen has this disclaimer. If they don't really understand how it works, how do they know what else it does?

Re: Rant on 'Collapse of Darwinism'
The Boeing 777 was not designed by humans but rather was evolved by computers.
I think this statement is mis-leading. You are insinuating that humans had nothing to do with the actual program that helped design the 777. The computer is just a tool to figure out stresses and loads, and lift. It relies completely on our input.
