Until the recent homosexual revolution and until the recent women's lib movement, the most blessed nation on earth faired quite well under the things Falwell espoused before he died. Unless you consider the Civil War, the British burning down most of Washington, the destruction of San Fransisco, the Great Depression, Pearl Harbor, et cetera to be bad things in some way. They also had a lot more epidemic diseases and a much shorter life expectancy back in those days. That's a sure sign of God's wrath, right? I wonder what he could have been so annoyed about? Maybe it was bigotry. Edited by Dr Adequate, : No reason given.

I didn't compare Falwell to Hitler. I did. And here's why: The logical next step, after saying "unrepentant homosexuals bring about the wrath of God on our country," is to remove them from the country for its own safety. Kinda like what Hitler did to them, along with Jews. Hitler was a few steps further down, but they were walking the same repulsive road. Did Falwell ever call for the deportation of all homosexuals? Did Falwell ever call for the destruction of all homosexuals? He did call for their repentance. schraf writes: Buzsaw, you have been told many times, over the course of several years that the ACLU defended Falwell in a religious rights case, despite his heaping disdain upon the organization for years and years. You don't comprehend well either, madear. Note that word, "about." I'm sure you've been told many times that "about" doesn't mean "everything". BUZSAW B 4 U 2 C Y BUZ SAW

Eat your hearts out ye hate filled Falwell bashers. I know this will be unwelcome news flash to your Christophobic bash fest here but guess who is doing Falwell's biography with the blessings of Jerry? Mel White, frequent guest, friend and biographer of the Falwells is the biographer. Mel says though he and Jerry have ideological differences, Jerry is an amiable and friendly guy. I heard this on FLM Christian radio, Bath, NY last night.

DA, the frequency of severe disasters, especially destructive tornadoes, floods and fires is far greater than ever in the past.

We're having destructive disasters at home and loosing personel in overseas wars. We're beginning to loose God's blessings partly due to the kind of Bibliophobia and apostacy from truth we see right here in this thread as the present generation prevails. As the nation's majority thumbs their noses at God so the hedge of protection departs and destruction comes via disaster and foreign invaders who are the trojan horse types setting us up for internal turmoil and oppression.
Abe: For the record I've noted these prophecies to substantiate Falwell's contention that God's wrath is aroused by anti-God and anti Biblical behavior of nations and cultures as per topic. Edited by Buzsaw, : Edited to explain why mention of prophecies relative to Falwell topic. BUZSAW B 4 U 2 C Y BUZ SAW

The next logical step according to who? Are you incapable of extrapolating the next step in a train of thought? It's not a far jump from "they're evil and bring the wrath of God killing thousands of innocent people" to "we'd better get rid of them so God doesn't stay pissed off."
Did Falwell ever call for the deportation of all homosexuals? Did Falwell ever call for the destruction of all homosexuals? quote: Yeah, he basically DID call for the death of homosexuals. He said we should just let them all die of AIDS, since AIDS was God's punishment for the buttsex. But you also seem incapable of reading and comprehending an entire post, ICANT. I didn't say Falwell was as far down the road as Hitler. I said they were walking the same path, and Hitler was a step or two further down.
He did call for their repentance. Yes, he did. Which is insane. It's like telling me to repent for being attracted to women. Or like telling a black man to repent for the color of his skin. Sexual orientation is not a choice. Anyone who thinks so is either ignorant, an idiot, or an outright lying bigot. Fundies go all nuts about how everything is part of God's plan - unless you're born gay. Then, somehow, despite the fact that according to the religion God would have had to MAKE them that way, somehow it's still a choice, and God doesn't want them to be the way He made them. Yeah. That makes sense. Every time a fundy breaks the laws of thermodynamics, Schroedinger probably kills his cat.

Buzsaw writes me:
quote: No no Buz, please don't "loose" God's blessings on me! Thank you, all the same.
quote: Or maybe God's just sending all those foreign invaders and disasters our way cuz he enjoys seeing some folks go absolutely batshit crazy over them. I suppose it's all rather amusing in the abstract. Okay, I know that's silly. But it would explain Jerry Falwell. And probably George Bush, too. W.W.E.D.?

I stand corrected.
However, I'd like to know exactly what you think the ACLU opposes that Falwell supports. You do know that ACLU stands for American Civil Liberties Union, don't you? As in, they defend anyone's civil liberties as guaranteed in the United states Constitution. They have defended both pornographers and preachers. That should indicate to you that they are NOT politically biased and the ONLY thing that guides them in choosing which cases to take on is if there has been a violation of our constitution. As far as I can tell, the only thing that the ACLU opposes that Falwell supported was his desire for theocratic government in the US, which would be unconstitutional.

quote: And won't you be devastated if peace were to break out? I mean, that would mean that the apocolypse and the Second Coming aren't happening any time soon, right? That's why Jerry and all the rest of the crazy christian fudies support Israel and do everything they can to prevent middle east peace. They think it is all going to start there and they want to help it along. After all, Jerry said that the antichrist is currently alive and is a male Jew.

I know this will be unwelcome news flash to your Christophobic bash fest here but guess who is doing Falwell's biography with the blessings of Jerry? Unwelcome news? I told you that nearly 100 posts ago in this thread. Keep it up with your "news flashes" that tell us stuff we've already talked about, though. It's hilarious how out of step you always are.
Mel says though he and Jerry have ideological differences, Jerry is an amiable and friendly guy. I don't think it bespeaks much for ol' Jerry that he was friendly with his friends but railed against homosexuals. All it drives home is the hypocrisy that underlaid his bigotry, and it would seem to support Hitch's position that Falwell was a big phony. Even Mel White is glad this guy isn't around causing the damage he caused. Oh - and, of course, "some of my best friends are gay" is the classic self-defense of bigots, just as "some of my best friends are black" is only something you'll hear racists say. Although in the case of a ghost writer, I think it'd be "gay people are my friends when I pay them!"

Although in the case of a ghost writer, I think it'd be "gay people are my friends when I pay them!" Now, now. I'm sure he'd have called them his friends if they had paid HIM enough, as well. Every time a fundy breaks the laws of thermodynamics, Schroedinger probably kills his cat.
