quote:"Ba'al" is one of the God of the Canaanites.
'Ba'al' is a Hebrew word for 'lord.' It is a kind-of a general word having meanings along the lines of 'lord of the manor,' though it was used to refer to foreign gods.
1) owner, husband, lord 1a) owner 1b) a husband 1c) citizens, inhabitants 1d) rulers, lords 1e) (noun of relationship used to characterise-ie, master of dreams) 1f) lord (used of foreign gods)
That ties in with what I found in that Beelzebub or Ba'al Zebub means the Lord of Zebub or possibly the Lord of Flies.
Over the millenia this name has come to used for the devil ... but (and I cannot remember who said this originally) yesterday's Gods are tomorrow's demons.
