Abortion case decision due Wednesday
quote:
The High Court heard that the Health Service Executive made an application to the district court on Saturday seeking directions as to whether the girl, known as Miss D, could travel for an abortion.
The girl is four months pregnant with a child that cannot live for more than a few days after birth.
So it seems they are willing to put this poor girl through some unbelievably traumatic times in order to "Uphold the law"
I find this abhorrent in the extreme

Ugh. Poor girl - and it's not like an anecephalic baby can be said to be "alive" in any intelligible sense.

It's shocking.
A sign that the catholic church still has a strangle hold over ireland.
But preventing someone from travelling abroad... I can't believe it. I would hav thought that contravenes some european human right or other.

Was thinking the same thing myself!
How can they even consider banning someone from travelling? What happens next - do they place a ban on all pregnant women who want to travel, just in case? What about those women in the early stages of pregnancy when there is no bump? The only way round this would be to insist that every single female who wished to travel take a pregnancy test when leaving the country. It's absolutely ludicrous!
When you then consider the specifics of this particular case it becomes abhorrent. Given the risk factor of carrying a pregnancy to full term and knowing that the foetus cannot survive how can anyone say that preventing the termination is the correct thing to do?

Re: Was thinking the same thing myself!
Well,
It seems that someone has seen sense..
Miss D can travel for abortion: Court
quote:
The High Court has ruled that Miss D can travel outside the country for an abortion.
The judge has ruled there is no statutory or constitutional impediment to her leaving the country for that purpose...
