coincidence?
Charley:
Hurricane Andrew hit in 1992 but interestingly it happened on the same day talks in the US in respect to Israel giving up land. The flattening of Florida happened on George Bush Sr. watch with Hurricane Andrew being one of the greatest natural disasters ever to hit America.
It was a sign, all right, but real estate had nothing to do with it. I know for a fact that Hurricane Andrew was all my girlfriend's fault.
She had been on a diet. But we were in a restaurant that day, and she figured it wouldn't hurt anything if she had one slice of Key lime pie.
The storm hit Florida within the hour. When she saw the terrible devastation on the news, she realized that God was angry about her gluttony. She repented at once and went back on her diet.
And guess what? The hurricane went away.

angelas among you
A sign, yes, but again you do not know the real facts. I know all about these disasters and can tell you the exact cause.
Yep. My girlfriend again.
On September 1 while Hurricane Dennis was meandering along the North Carolina coast, Angela Wu, a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill then living in Baltimore, Maryland, was thinking about cheating on her diet. She was in a 7-Eleven near Joppa Road, gazing at the array of Doritos on display. She purchased a bag of barbecue-flavor Doritos and took it out to her car. Angela opened the bag and began eating the chips. She was wearing a shirt that had the words NORTH CAROLINA silk-screened across the front. As she cheated on her diet, crumbs fell on the name of the state.
Dennis was lingering and actually moving away from the coast but at the very exact time Angela began eating the Doritos the storm reversed course and hit North Carolina. This hurricane was literally doing circles in the Atlantic Ocean until she opened the bag. On this very day, the hurricane then hit the United States. While it didn't do any immediate damage its effects would be felt by another storm that was coming to North Carolina just a few weeks later by the name of FLOYD.
On September 13, 1999, Angela Wu drove past a new Krispy-Kreme on Reisterstown Road. She was tempted to go inside and buy some doughnuts but resisted the temptation. Two days later, though, she drove past the Krispy-Kreme again and decided to indulge. She went inside and ordered a half-dozen cake doughnuts with strawberry icing. She sat down at once and ate two of the doughnuts, then took the other four home and put them in her refrigerator.
What color is strawberry icing? Pink. And what word do people think of next when they hear the word pink? That's right. FLOYD.
On that same day, Hurricane Floyd strengthened into a very dangerous category FIVE hurricane with sustained winds of 155 mph. The forecasters at the National Hurricane Center were astonished how quickly Floyd grew in size and strength in one day. The actual statement was, Floyd grew unexpectedly into a monster of a storm on Sunday. This was the very day Angela Wu decided to cheat on her diet in Baltimore, Maryland.
On September 16, 1999 Hurricane Floyd slammed into North Carolina. While the winds had diminished to 105 mph its size was unprecedented. Hurricane-force winds extended out 150 miles in front of it. This hurricane caused the greatest evacuation in the history of the United States during peace time. Millions of people were moved inland. The awesome destructive force of this storm was the rains. Rains of 20 inches or more fell over the entire eastern part of North Carolina. The rivers were still swollen and the land soaked from Hurricane Dennis two weeks before. Some 18,000 square miles were destroyed.
In North Carolina, 28 counties were declared a state of emergency. Some 400-500 roads were closed. Farmers estimated over 100,000 hogs, 2.47 million chickens and over 500,000 turkeys were dead. Head amounts of horses and cattle also died. Sewage and water systems were knocked out. Sewage, chemicals and dead animals all flowed into the rivers creating an environmental nightmare. Some entire countries were nearly totally destroyed. THe damage to agriculture was estimated at $1 billion, but could exceed this amount. The loss to buildings, home and roads was in the billions. This was the great disaster to hit North Carolina since the Civil War.
While Angela still had those fateful strawberry-iced doughnuts in her fridge, almost the entire East Coast of America was being ravaged by a monster hurricane.
Proverbs 23.20:
Do not be among winebibbers, or among gluttonous eaters

Re: angelas among you
Silly me for thinking that the sea surface temperature (SST) had anything to do with it!!
SST is just another lie put out by godless materialist meteorologists.
Some people say all the weather bureaus of the world are mistaken.
But if you ask me, I think they know exactly what they're doing.
They all talk to each other, you know. It's a global network.

a very good year
this year was the first year that i can ever remember that we did not have a named hurricane hit the eastern seaboard. some years, we have 5 or 6.
That's great! You guys must have been doing something righteous.
Think hard. What could it have been?

Forces of Nature or Blueberries of Wrath?
1991 30 October - The Dinner Party
Angela Wu, who had been on the same diet for five years, invited a group of friends to her home for dinner. Among the dishes she proudly prepared for her guests was blueberry cheesecake. With much fanfare she brought the decadent dessert to the table, where it was immediately hailed as a masterpiece of culinary leadership by all guests present. Yet the perversity of Ms Wu's recipe was simple: over 100 calories and 7 grams of fat in a single ounce. And needless to say, she participated in this indulgence, breaking her New Year's resolution of eleven months earlier to stick to her diet.
1991 31 October - The Next Day - The Perfect Storm hits
A very rare huge storm starting in the north Atlantic, moving east to west (wrong direction for storms to move - although all in the folklore surrounding Samhain, bad things tend to move east to west). This storm was so unusual and contrary to "mother nature" it was immortalized by the book The Perfect Storm by Sebastian Junger and later a popular movie. Amazon says of the book The Perfect Storm, "Meteorologists called the storm that hit North America's eastern seaboard in October 1991 a "perfect storm" because of the rare combination of factors that created it. For everyone else, it was perfect hell. In The Perfect Storm, author Sebastian Junger conjures for the reader the meteorological conditions that created the "storm of the century" and the impact the storm had on many of the people caught in it."
Interesting, one of the first places The Perfect Storm hit was Kennebunkport, Maine. Waves over 30 foot demolished a warehouse owned by - guess who - Meg & Mary Jo's Blue Ribbon Berries, the source of the sinful sugary topping on Angela Wu's decadent dessert.

Charley:
But in a review of their charts showing total earthquake activity for the 1970's through the 1990's, there has been a tremendous increase in overall earthquake activity.
And it's no coincidence.
Have you seen Angela Wu's waistline lately?

it takes a fat nation to move the world.
Then maybe Charley can explain what gripe the Supreme Being has with Taiwan. We don't bother anyone in the Middle East about real estate, we eat sensibly and take the Metro. Yet we endure 4-8 direct hits from cyclonic storms every year. And the earthquakes--aiya.
I mean, look at this:

Why does Washington DC get such light treatment by comparison?

It might well be that Taiwanians as a nation are heathens?
You may have a point there. Chiang Kai-Shek was a Methodist.
So are Dubya and Laura Bush, and Hillary Clinton. Bill Clinton is Baptist, as was Jimmy Carter. Dubya Bush's parents are Episcopalians.
Maybe the goddess Matsu is sending you a message, Charley.

We can only thank God that he gave George the wisdom to side with Israel.
... as Israel follows through on its policy of withdrawing from settlements and working toward a two-state solution?
Perhaps the problem is the idols from Asia that have permeated into our country since the 1960's. Is Taiwanians bringing judgment on America by all the new age religions that come from Asia.
Like Methodism?

Re: Gods fury/ Placing blame
Why are there earthquakes and typhoons in Taiwan?
Charley, with characteristic charm, suggests:
It might well be that Taiwanians as a nation are heathens?
Interesting you should say that, Charley. Ever compare the numbers of Christians in Taiwan to the number of Christians in Israel?
If your Christian God is so eager to write a blank check to Israel on religious grounds, Taiwan should get by without even asking.
For that matter, I wonder if you have ever compared the proportion of Christians in the Palestinian population with the proportion of Christians in Israel's population? Another eye-opener there for you when you're ready to abandon your Sunday School stereotypes.
Another silly fantasy bites the dust. Sorry, Charley.
Let me suggest an alternate hypothesis for you to consider.
Plate tectonics. Taiwan sits on top of a subduction zone. The island is one result of that subduction zone. You're looking at a lot of mountain-building acitivity, and that activity has pushed mountains up form the seafloor to past the sea level to create this island. That activity is still going on. And that means earthquakes. It just goes with the territory.
For the typhoons, latitude and water. Cyclonic storms form in open ocean near the equator. After that they typically move westward. This happens for understandable geophysical reasons. Any land near the equator with a lot of ocean to the east--like Taiwan or Florida or Jamaica--is going to find itself rather frequently in the path of these storms.
Anyone asserting that natural phenomena represent 'punishment' for religious or political behavior has to account for this: earthquakes and typhoons have been going on in all these areas since long before any of the nations or religions existed. These natural events took place in these areas thousands of years before they were even inhabited.

If you check the strongs concordance "divers places" can mean distribution or intensity along coastlines.

Servant's Heart, Infidel's Bankbook
Charley:
To me its more about having a servants heart.
Sure it is. As long as fundies have a 'servant's heart,' it's okay for them to pile up a king's ransom and hoard it all for themselves without even having to pay taxes on it.
Interesting how literally fundies takes the Old Testament passages about homosexuality but how creative they suddenly get when their Lord and Savior tells them to render unto Caesar what is Caesar's and to sell everything they have to help the poor.

They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on the shoulders of others; but they themselves are unwilling to lift a finger to move them.
Matthew 23.2 NRSV
