I want to start a semi humorous, semi serious discussion about the nature of God. Pretend that we hav a sort of a roundtable Town Meeting Group. There are four God candidates present. each one seeks to be recognized as God, Omnipotant Creator of all things.
at the table we have:
1) Jesus Christ, who is representing His Father.
2) Loki, the Trickster.
3) Sophia- the source of Wisdom.
4) The Flying Spaghetti Monster
We open this town meeting up by asking questions and allowing the candidates to answer, based on the words that we give them.(since this is a Forum of ideas, and since each answer should be consistent with the character that is commonly ascribed to these candidates.
For example, I could have Jesus say that He reads the Tao, but I would have to show a scriptural reference that would supposedly back up this assertion. Otherwise I may as well ask Sophia. I could quote the Tao in context and have a scripture that backed up the Tao quote, however!

Can I tell the truth, Jesus?
The meeting begins and I get to ask the first question. I approach Loki.
where are the references that show your credentials, oh trickster? I laugh and walk away. The same thing happens with the Spaghetti Monster, itself an urban legend. Sophia proves more elusive, as she seems to be connected to lots of mythology as well as Gnostic Church beliefs. I will need to study human wisdom in order to see her wisdom emerge.
Gnosticism is no threat to my beliefs, however...and so I move on to Jesus.
What do you suppose happens next?

for the record
A word before we proceed, Mr Chairman.
One the basis of the material presented in my next post, I submit that Sophia has as much right to represent YHWH at this forum as Jesus does. One could argue, in fact, that Lady Wisdom's claim to representative status takes priority over his based on both seniority and consensus.
Seniority: support for Sophia's divine attributes and 'firstborn' status existed for centuries before Jesus was born.
Consensus: the Hebrew text supporting Sophia's status is regarded as authoritative by more people than the Greek Gospel narratives--and this, before we even begin to consider the texts honoring Sophia that exist outside Jewish culture.
I just wanted these facts to appear in the minutes. Thank you.

from Sophia's portfolio
A supporting document for Sophia's résumé:
Ages ago I was set up,
at the first, before the beginning of the earth.
When there were no depths I was brought forth,
when there were no springs abounding with water.
Before the mountains had been shaped,
before the hills, I was brought forth”
when he had not yet made earth and fields,
or the world’s first bits of soil.
When he established the heavens, I was there,
when he drew a circle on the face of the deep,
when he made firm the skies above,
when he established the fountains of the deep,
when he assigned to the sea its limit,
so that the waters might not transgress his command,
when he marked out the foundations of the earth,
then I was beside him, like a master worker;
and I was daily his delight,
rejoicing before him always,
rejoicing in his inhabited world
and delighting in the human race.

Re: Can I tell the truth, Jesus?
I approach Jesus.
"Where are the references that show your credentials?" I laugh and walk away.
He thumps a Bible on the table.
"It's customary to ask for two pieces of ID." I add, "Photo ID."
The rest is silence.

Loki responds
The meeting begins and I get to ask the first question. I approach Loki.
where are the references that show your credentials, oh trickster?
Loki Laughs at me.
"Silly human", he says. "Look all about you."
"Why do you think there is no padding on shins and elbows, the two parts of the body most likely to get hit? Those were two of my favorite pranks."
"Who do you think put the slime in okra?"
"Then there is the universe. I created these humans that think they are so special, then stuck them in a little corner and made the whole rest of the place so hostile they may never be able to live anywhere else. And just to make the joke even funnier, I set it up so they could SEE all the places they can't go. I still end up spitting beer all over myself when I think of that one."

Re: Can I tell the truth, Jesus?
Photo ID, eh?
Jesus was born way before the invention of the camera. He has probably had His image drawn up more than the other 3 combined, but so far hasn't snuck back to earth for a photo. Very convenient, all this being born before cameras stuff.
I don't know whether Sophia and Loki were ever 'born' but they are still way too ancient for photos. Maybe they have more to fear from the camera; it might steal their spirit?
So that leaves the Spaghetti Monster. An infant in terms of eternity. Definitely young enough to have seen a camera. Only problem is, how DO you get an urban legend to pose?

How about a video appearance instead.

If He lives today, that's no excuse.

My. That is most compelling. I think I'm having a Road to Dusseldorf experience.
No doubt some modern cycnic will suggest the disciples faked the evidence.
That just goes to show you, though, doesn't it? Motive is everything. It all depends on whether you have a heart willing to believe.

I approach Loki.
Loki howls, screams, pulls at the entrails of his son, and spits venom from his mouth. With every thrash, the earth shakes.
Next question.

Next Question
So I ask; which one of you receives the most attention?
Jesus says 'I believe I do'. 'See, all day and all night people fight over Me. The conversations are strange and often the subject seems to be appropiate housing for Me.' Here's an example;
Jesus lives in ME!
No, He can't. He lives in ME!
How do you know? How can I tell if He lives in ME?
If Jesus lived in you, you would recognize Him...
BUT HE DOES, AND I DO!!!!!!
No, that is Satan.
How do you know?
Well, I saw him in the window and his beard was longer than Jesus' is. Jesus has a short beard, and I know FOR SURE because He lives with ME!!!!!!!
