Okay, so you know how you got here. But how did sex itself get here?
Not a spam thread. Our scientists will lay bare all the facts we have about hermaphrodites and asexuality, copulation and cross-pollination, fertility, fecundity and rampant reproduction.

One problem with this is that Randman, who was the one asking about theories of the evolution sex, is limited to the showcase forum. Do we need a normal and a showcase version of the same topic? Assuming of course that Randman wants to start a new thread in showcase.

AW

I'm happy with it as a showcase, WK. I'll bow out.
For some time now this has been looking like a very, um, fertile area to explore. Whatever Randman decides, I'm sure many people would be interested in a thread on the present state of research. Thanks for your willingess to share.
And who knows? With the right headlines, maybe EvC can get a ratings boost.

Evolution of sex
Yes, I would really like to see this topic brought. Just last night I was considering starting a thread on it.

Needs a better title.
I think that a discussion of the current state of knowledge on the Origin of Sex would be of interest, but it does need a better title, one like "What is the origin of Sex" for example.
I also think it would be better in one of the moderated threads as opposed to Showcase.
Finally, I suggest that it would be best in either Biological Evolution or Origin of Life.

An older thread on this topic.
Another alternative would be to bump up the old Asexual to sexual reproduction? How? thread, which covered very much the same ground, and continue relevant discussion there. Perhaps if NJ is also interested in the topic he could look over that thread and decide if he would like to resurrect it. No word from Randman as yet so maybe it would be as well to have a thread that everyone who isn't consifned to showcase could participate in , and with the added bonus of not being subject to summary dismissal if they piss the threads owner off.

    AW

Well, that looks like the topic, really. Spot on.
