GAHHHHHHH!!!!
[rant]
It drives me nuts that people seem to think ”Gender’ is simply a polite way of asking what ”Sex’ you are!!!!.
Every time I encounter a form that asks Gender : Male - Female, I almost loose it
It begs the question what do they want to know? Am I Male or Female, or am I Masculine or Feminine? The latter is absolutely none of their business, and frankly most of the time neither is the former.
All I can think of is it’s down to ignorance and a deep seated dislike for the word ”Sex’ being used in public .
We need a major education program to educate the masses, if for nothing else than to save my blood pressure.

Counter-rant - "gender" is a grammatical term.
Am I Male or Female, ...
I can't answer from this distance. But there are some simple observations that you can make yourself if you want to know the answer
..., or am I Masculine or Feminine?
That looks wrong. I think it should be:
    Is "I" masculine or feminine?

And the answer is simple. "I" is both masculine and feminine. The word can be use for both gender cases.
Sorry to be a pedantic. But then this whole thread is about being pedantic.

Well I certainly don't have a problem saying sex in public. Sex sex sex sex sex.
Yet I do use the term gender. This is mainly because people have made a distinction between the terms gender and sex. One being your physical characteristic, the other your self-identified (mental) characteristic. I believe I adopted that terminology specifically after reading a thread on that topic here at EvC.
My problem is that I use it so infrequently I tend to forget which means which.
