I had "Simply Christian" recommended to me. After researching it on the internet I ordered it and am just finishing it.
I have felt for a long time that CS Lewis is probably the greatest Christian author of all time, with "Mere Christianity" being his most important book. I still think so, but I now consider N.T. Wright (The Bishop of Durham) to be a close second if "Simply Christian" is indicative of his writing. I'll get a better idea in the future as I have just ordered another book by him.
His theology is as near as I can tell very close to Lewis. This would mean that jar would call him conservative and Faith would call him a liberal.
The book is well broken down into its various sections and is not a difficult read but he has many new insights that I am going to have to re-read and ponder for a while.
If someone wants to really research the Christian faith I still consider "Mere Christianity" to be the first book one should read, but if he/she still wants to know more I definitely recommend that "Simply Christian" be the next one on the list.
Here is his web site.

Great review

Anyone as armed an emboldened by the Spirit of grace with as much explanatory power as CS Lewis had is certainly someone I will find time to read. I too find CS Lewis to be at least in the top three Christian apologists of all time. If I had to order them in sequential order it might be Oswald Chambers, CS Lewis, and Ravi Zacharias. But its hard to say because they all have something different to bring to the table. I'll keep me eye out for this author and this book.

Heh. So he's a moderate....
