Looking at things today, seeing the Christian support for denying civil rights to homosexuals, the growth of Biblical Creationism and the ID movement I have little hope. I also have little hope.

I disagree with lots of people, (as do most others on this forum), without calling them a freak. I like to think that as Christians we're held to a much higher standing than that. Frankly I think that as human beings we're called to a higher standard than that. I don't know what kind of standards Christians are held to, but in my view Jar is no freak. His ideas are commonplace.

Loving GOD is done by loving others as you love yourself. "As" in this passage means "in the same way."

IMHO the other thing that must be emphasized is that the Second Commandment is a two parter. Before you can love others you must first love yourself That's not, though, what it says.

IMHO the other thing that must be emphasized is that the Second Commandment is a two parter. Before you can love others you must first love yourself. What you are doing is trying to graft modern pop psychology onto the Bible. I don't there's anything in the Bible about how we need to learn to love ourselves. That sounds very unBiblical to me.

A certain amount of self-love is understood. I know but it's spoken of in a different way. It's taken for granted that we love ourselves in the Bible. Jar is talking about the pop psychological concept popularized in the 60s and 70s. Very different.

The really hard part IMHO is that it requires you to really look at yourself honestly. It is none of the soft sentimental self-esteem bullshit that many folk try to sell, Rather it is an honest personal evaluation, that then leads to actual actions relating to what YOU do, then to what you do oustside. An eccentric definition of the word "love." ABE: I want to know where in the Bible it says we have to learn to love ourselves. Edited by robinrohan, : No reason given. His message was about living life. He partied, threw fishfries, went to weddings, laughed and cried with his friends, played jokes on them and chided them at times. This characterization of the story and message of the Gospels is rather odd, to say the least.

I don't quite see that or that his message is of total service. His message was about living life. He partied, threw fishfries, went to weddings, laughed and cried with his friends, played jokes on them and chided them at times. Isn't there something in the story about Jesus' asking that a certain cup be taken from him and then a subsequent death by torture? I'm almost sure I read that somewhere.

Which bit is wrong? I don't recall him laughing, but perhaps he did. There seems to be something rather important left out of the story as Jar describes it, however.

What do you think he did at weddings and feasts? Stood in the corner and frowned? What was the purpose of him expericing live as a man if he spent it as kid emo? Is there any mention of him laughing and joking in the Bible? I'm just curious.

The message of Jesus is NOT his death, it is his life and the wondrous things he taught us during it. It is his resurrection and ascension after death. It is the empty cross. Well, you had already gotten rid of the Fall and now you've gotten rid of the Passion. There's really nothing left of Christianity according to your version except some feel-good pop psychology. Why on earth do you call it "Christianity"? Edited by robinrohan, : No reason given.

Jesus laughs and in a friendly manner chides him, but helps him back to the boat. It says in the Bible that he laughs?
Jesus makes the miraculaous beer run but does he spoil the fun by explaining it? Nope. He just sits back and lets the good times roll. It occurs to me that if Jesus had used a little more tact, he could have saved himself from being crucified and lived out his life as the good-humored party-goer you characterize him as. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I rather like your interpretation of christianity, Jar. That's because it's not Christianity. Jar's taken out all the unpleasant parts (like the Fall and the Passion).

He should have used more smilies when He wrote the Bible. Like this? "There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth." Edited by robinrohan, : No reason given.
