Ann is not funny. Obnoxious yes, funny no. I read this book and Slander. Not funny, that is, unless you find an adam's apple on a woman funny. If that's funny then she's a riot.
Also, Arther Coltrane.

Re: Is ignorance bliss?
Being a Harvard research fellow has nothing to do with his parents, because he became a fellow in his forties.
Do you even know what a research fellow is?
If you go back and read what I actually wrote, I was denouncing the connection of Harvard students somehow inexplicably being uber-intelligent. To me, going to Harvard bespeaks more of being born into the privaleged-class than it does intelligence. But to be sure, I even said that Al Franken was intelligent. Its his political views that horrify me. I was simply dismissing the your coveted connection ot him going to Harvard somehow meaning, by default, that he's intelligent.
So, then do you agree with Faith that this means that he must be a Marxist?
No.
Well, he did barely pass. And he did spend 20 years as a drunk. nd he has never run a successful business. And he can't construct a decently complex sentence in English to save his life.
Bush IS one of those privaleged kids that I speak of, and I make no apologies for it. As well, he's a horrible orator. I make no apologies for that either. However, I find myself in agreement with most of his policies, certainly not all, and for this reason I chose him over Senator Flip-Flop and Vice President Internet.
Why don't you post some of the political statements Franken has made which show him to be an idiot, then?
"Last Monday, after my debate with Coulter at the Universal Amphitheatre in L.A... Ann continued: “I haven’t seen so many agitated Mexicans since the World Cup Soccer Games were in L.A.” As offended as the diners were, the waiters were pissed." -Al Franken
Now, see, first he demonizes Ann for making fun of Mexicans, which she didn't do. She merely said that she hasn't seen so Mexicans so agaitated before. That was satire. Then Franken proceeds to actualy make fun of Mexicans by insinuating that all of the waiters are Mexican. Was that satire? Yes, it was. I got it. Was it offensive? It was certainly more suspect than what Ann had said, but I don't get all butt-hurt over things like some of the people here on EvC. In any case, it was pretty stupid to try and point out that Ann was being offensive, when right after he nullified his own point by being more offensive.
You certainly don't need to buy one of his books hon, you're on the internet, remember?
Yeah, but hon, like I said, that would require effort on my part.

everyone who asks you a reason for the
hope that is in you.”

Ok, I'll try to do this slowly so hopefully you can understand. First of all what Ann said was NOT satire... The fact is the waiters WERE mexican and she was directly insulting them with a racist statement. It's not offensive for Al to recount that he noticed that the waiters were mexican and that they were pissed.
Satire - Wikipedia
Imagine the reception I would get if I walked into a place where many black people were working and I said "Wow, I haven't seen this many agitated blacks since the NBA finals". Doesn't seem very funny or satirical does it?

How true, how true. Just gimme that old time religion, it's good enough for me. Any ideas that developed after Constantine adopted Christianity as the official religion of the Roman Empire are just revisionist heresey and we don't need 'em is what I say. Paul knew it all, and Constintine knew what was important and collected it in the Bible and that is that, and everything is else is bad, bad, bad.
Being a fundamentalists means never having to change you mind which save you a lot of wasted energy on thinking!

Which of Al Franken's political views horrify you?

Senator Flip-Flop
Who said the following:
"We're going to keep the promise of Social Security and keep the government from raiding the Social Security surplus."
"If we don't stop extending our troops all around the world in nation-building missions, then we're going to have a serious problem coming down the road."

Re: Is ignorance bliss?
OK, here's the thing about Ann coulter and satire, juggs.
If she is engaging in satire, she is clearly satirizing the radical right.
That's what Stephen Colbert does. Everybody knows that Colbert isn't really a right-wing pundit. In fact, he's quite liberal, yet he portrays a very conservative right wing pundit on The Colbert Report in order to make fun of the policies and major players on the conservative right. He has often stated that one of the people he has modeled his character after is Bill O'Reilly, for example.
If Coulter were to actually be engaging in satire to make fun of the left, she would have to portray a far-left pundit, and pretend to espouse a far left position.
So, she isn't using satire.

Re: Is ignorance bliss?
Tell me if you find this satirical:
Crashfrog, in his new book "Nemesis_juggernaut is a fucking retard" writes:
You're an idiot, you're ugly, I had sex with your mom, and you have a tiny penis.
Hey, by your standard, I'm satirizing creationism. If you don't like it, it must be your lack of humor!
