There is absolutely no evidence of aliens, only subjective, yet we search for them. According to calculations and odds, we shouldn't even exist in this universe. So, doesn't that make it bad science to waste time looking for aliens?
I agree. We should leave the search for aliens up to the department of immigration and naturalizion services.

All extant so-called "calculations of the probability of our existance" are rubbish. Nobody has the information required to make such a calculation. Nobody.

Ah, so that is bad science then....I see....
I guess we should throw every thought about other life in the universe out the window, until we actually get around to visiting every habital place in the universe?

Not at all - I don't know why you'd get such an idea from what JonF said.
However, what we should throw out the window is any claim that we can work out what the odds of are of such life existing (particularly if we are considering intelligent life).
We can't work out the odds of ET existing for the same reasons we can't work do the "calculations of the probability of our existance" - we don't have enough information.
We've even got the Drake Equation which is an attempt to allow us to calculate the odds of their being intelligent life out there - problem is even if the equation is right we don't know what numbers to plug into it.
I just realised this is way off topic - but I think it needed to be said. If there's anything further you want to talk about we can fire up another thread in PNT.

Since you put it that way, I kind of agree.
Your right we don't know the numbers, and to me, life is either very abundant in the universe(relatively speaking), or we are the only ones here. But I say that statement in ignorance.
One thing we are pretty sure of, is that we are rare in our own solar system, and on our very earth, the human kind.

Try to rein in those galloping goalposts, will ya?
da dump da dump da dump da dump
da dump da dump da dump da dump
da dump da dump da dump da dump
daaaa dummmmm da dump
"Galloping goalposts! It's the Lone Ranger!"
"Hi-Yo Silver! Away!"
Who was that masked man, anyway?
EvC as Monty Python's Flying Circus as we chase around after this goalpost that goes galloping off with dubbed in sounds of pounding feet. Sometimes my imagination overcomes me.
"Try to rein in those galloping goalposts, will ya?" would make a great sig line.
thanks for the laugh, I'm still snorkeling as I type this,
