help stamp out ignorance and Biblical Creationism
Speaking as a Biblical Creationist and a Christian there is nothing "factually wrong" in the Bible.
I don't doubt that you believe that, however that is why we need to bring science into the churches, to try to educate the folk like you who have been lied to, been indoctrinated and kept in ignorance. We need to at least show then the overwhelming evidence that is out there. It is then up to them whether they use the gifts GOD gave them, or decide to remain wilfully ignorant.
That is what this forum, projects like the Clergy Letter, groups like Christian Alliance for Progress and other groups try to do. Christians are finally speaking out against the efforts by the Christian Right, the snakeoil salesmen like the 700 Club and the other televangelists. It's time to show not only is Biblical Creationism not science, it's not even good theology.

I said Christian church. So no, that wouldn't include Catholics. But that's way off topic.

Well, this isn't the thread to show factual errors in the Bible but the Garden of Eden, Adam & Eve, the Flood, Exodus as described in the Bible, Joshuah, Judges, Kings and on and on are simply not factual. They were never meant to be factual any more than The Pied Piper of Hamelin was meant to be factual.
You're new here, but if you look around you will find many threads discussing the factual nature of the Bible. This thread though is about the advisability of bringing science into the Churches. Hopefully we will be able to show that unless someone is wilfully ignorant, there is no conflict between science and Christianity.

As a non-Catholic I find that a little disturbing. You mean a Catholic cannot be a Christian. Where did you get this idea?

Would you mind doing me a huge favor? Would you find ONE single piece of evidence for evolution? One piece of evidence that proves that something in the Bible is wrong? I've already asked you to try and do that twice and you don't seem to be able or want to comply.

As a non-Catholic, true Christian and as one who doesn't believe in evolution could I give you a piece of advice?
Duck!

This is, as I said, not the thread to debate either of those. Join us in the proper threads.

Er...this isn't really the thread for either of them. There are several science forums if you want to talk about evolution here, and there are a few Bible/belief forums if you want to talk about the Bible. But if you want:
Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
So how about I'll give you some hydroflouric acid to drink and see if you're killed or not, eh? Then we'll stick you in a snake pit and see how long you last

Re: catholics aren't christians?
You don't hang around with enough Southern Baptists, Berberry. The ones out here typically will say that the RCC is the Whore of Babylon.
Back to topic, kids, or the mods will be upon us!!!!!!!!

i think you are looking at the problem from the wrong angle .. it is not the question of the bible being true or false , its the issue of peoples actions in the name of the bible ,
its the groups trying to imposse thier view , their "law" upon others , and who try to subvert infomation to trash other views .
currently science has no place in faith , it lacks the tools to deal with such matter , but would it not be a great hope that one day science could ??
If creationist wish to belive what they do that is thier right , BUT to demand those views be forced up others to the exculsion of other views is not right.
if you think it is nessary to teach biblical creation in state schools , it is only reasonable that all creationist views are also taught based on all religons , is it not ?
I MY ( i cannot speak for others) simple view of things to many people hold the bible to be the total word of god , it is clearly not , is is a work of human hands trying to pass on a mesage that the orginal writers belived was divinly inspired , and as sure is a treasure of the human expirence and a aid to faith ... if your faith comes only from the words printed in a book are you not making that book an idol to be worshiped ???

Teaching science in a churce would be great for the kids dragged along by parents but can you honestly see it making any difference?
Either one is open to the possiblilty that the doctrin is not always literal and open to to interpretaion, or you are not.
It would be great if exposure could effect wilful ignorance but I honestly don't see it working.
There will always be a dividing line between strict adherance to doctrine and the scientific methodology.

Good god! How did I ever forget about them?
Well, to be sure I don't hang around with them; I avoid them like the plague. But they're all over the place here. However, they don't condemn catholics the way they used to. I suppose they think they need them to help spread more hate against gays, but for whatever reason they seem to be much more friendly toward them than they used to be. Look at the way they've gotten themselves so worked up over The Da Vinci Code, which - if it is to be regarded as an attack on anyone - is much more an attack on catholics than it is on evangelical fundies.
And yes this is off-topic, I agree. But I couldn't let that comment go without correcting myself, since so many of my posts on this forum have dealt with the predominance of southern baptists and other fundies here in Mississippi.

too easy
Speaking as a Biblical Creationist and a Christian there is nothing "factually wrong" in the Bible. Period. I personally challenge you to come up with ONE fact of the Bible and prove it wrong. Go ahead, try.
There was no worldwide flood in recorded human history.
Period, end of story, thanks for playing
