Bottle nose dolphins have been found to have identifying sounds for each indivudual. They are the only animal besides man that we know use sounds as names to identify indivuals... very very cool in my opinon.

Yes, this is amazing, each has it's own name. I think most animals have their own personality, and probably are in a similar boat.
Onr thing I thought was pretty sad was a story last week or so where 400 of these dolphins were found dead in Zanzibar. They found 60 some odd dead some time ago in Florida, in that case it was because of naval movement and submarine sonar, they say. Likely the same here. When I looked at the map where this was, it was somwhat chilling to look up and see Iran due noth of here! Some one may be on the way to the vicinity?

In nine out of 14 cases, the dolphin would turn more often toward the speaker if it heard a whistle that sounded like a close relative's.
vs.
Bottle nose dolphins have been found to have identifying sounds for each indivudual.
I think there's a bit of a gap here. It's interesting, but... let's call an apple an apple.
More than that, two dolphins may refer to a third by the third animal's name, said Laela Sayigh, one of three authors of a paper published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
I'd really like to know more about this. Anybody have the time / interest to track down the journal article / research paper from which this CNN article was based?
