In areas like Southern California there are boulders that are mixed into the soil. As the land is pushed up by techtonic activity the soil erodes away leaving the boulders sitting on tops of the hills.

Lots of ways. Mostly through normal erosion events. Big rock break down into little rocks and little rocks to smaller rocks and those into sand.
If you wander up the coast aways to just above Ventura or into the Hollywood Hills, you can see it going on today.
Normal events and lots of time.
One thing to watch for is the local mud slides. You should be in season right about now. Examine the slides, what they look like, what they do. There you can see part of the process at work.
The other half happens less regularly. It's the uplift portion. I was out there during the 1971 Earthquake and while it was abrupt, it was also awe inspiring.

Re: Conclusion
Many of us have been talking with Christian in chat and following her questions here on the board, and personally, I think you are totally wrong. I believe that Christian is very sincere in her search and looking for infomation, regardless of where the path leads.
She is a YEC right now. But above all she is a Christian searching for truth, and that will remain regardless of what she learns.
She is also, very rightly, not going to simply take our word for the age of the earth. She is going to ask us to support our position and will compare the information we provide to that provided by Walt Brown and Kent Hovind.
It is up to us to answer her questions fully and completely. In addition, we need to move at a pace she can accept and in steps that she can manage.
The burden sits on our shoulders and time will tell whether we are capable of carrying it.

Can the current TOE be wrong?
Question is: are any of you folks willing to admit that you might be wrong?
Certainly. In fact it's very likely that we are wrong. That is inherent characteristic of the scientific method. As we learn more, as new evidence is found, all current theories are examined. When evidence is found that cannot be explained by the current theories, the theory is revised. That happens all the time.
The TOE as used today is quite different from what was outlined in Darwins initial book. We have learned more and so know more.
Us YEC's are the only one's who could possibly be ignorant.
Two issues. One is that the concept of Young Earth has been falsified. It's very likely, almost a certainty, that what we know about the age of the universe and the process of its development will change as we learn more.
BUT, we will never go back to the Young Earth scenario. That much is certain.
Also, being ignorant is not always bad. There is so much that I am ignorant of that I will certainly fill the rest of my life just learning and never get to the point where I know all.
What is unforgivable, IMHO, is wilfull ignorance. That is where someone refuses to examine things that challenge personal beliefs.
