This seems to be the best place to post this...
There's an article in the UK popular press (The Guardian) about the fact that the holy oil Jesus used to anoint himself with had cannabis as one of its main (and active) ingredients.
Cannabis oil can be absorbed through the skin producing the same sensations as when its smoked. If true, the article argues, it explains how Jesus was able to heal by touch (a skin disease which appears like leprosy, pruritis, can be treated by cannabis oil as it has anti-bacterial properties). There are reports from epilepsy sufferers and those with dystonia about the beneficial effects of marijuana on their' condition as well - could this be the casting out of demons??
Exodus 30:23-25 KJV:
23 Take thou also unto thee principal spices, of pure myrrh five hundred shekels, and of sweet cinnamon half so much, even two hundred and fifty shekels, and of sweet calamus two hundred and fifty shekels,
24 And of cassia five hundred shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, and of oil olive an him.
25 And thou shall make it an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary: it shall be holy anointing oil
Calumus is apparently a mistranslation - it should be "kaneh-bosm", meaning cannabis. This was (I think) established by Sula Menet, a Polish etymologist in 1936.
I don't know how seriously the above is taken, I've seen one trite refutation on a Xian website asserting that the word "calumus" means "cane", but does anyone who has a better knowledge than me of biblical etymology here (shouldn't be difficult) have a view on this?
